What’s more annoying than getting phone calls from telemarketers? Probably getting unwanted text messages from advertisers.
A class action settlement has been reached with Club Texting, Inc., a mobile marketing and promotions company that has been accused of sending unsolicited text messages to Illinois cell phone users. Club Texting provides a text-messaging platform to businesses and social groups to contact their clients and members, but it appears at least one business misused the platform.
According to the lawsuit, a Chicago night-club promotion company called “Fly Society” failed to gain consent from cell phone users before using the Club Texting platform to send text messages advertising various night club events.
If you’re an Illinois resident and received a Fly Society text message transmitted by Club Texting without your consent between September 25, 2004 and January 22, 2010, you may be eligible to receive a $67.50 settlement. The deadline to submit a claim is June 14, 2010. Visit http://flysocietyclassactionsettlement.com/ for more information.
