A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit over allegations certain Kia Sorento vehicles were equipped with a defective crankshaft bolt that could break in some conditions.
If you owned or leased a model year 2003-2006 Kia Sorento with a 3.5-liter engine, you may be entitled to benefits from this Kia class action settlement.
Plaintiff Yvonne Robinson and several other plaintiffs filed the Kia class action lawsuit in 2013, alleging certain 2003-2006 model year Kia Sorento vehicles with 3.5-liter engines have a crankshaft pulley bolt defect that can result in the bolt breaking.
When the crankshaft pulley bolt breaks, it can damage other engine components, the Kia Sorento class action lawsuit alleges. The damaged engine components can reportedly cause significant issues, including the loss of steering control and possible engine failure that can increase the risk of an accident. The plaintiffs assert Kia knew about the Sorento engine defect for years but failed to disclose the problem to consumers.
Kia denies the allegations but the vehicle manufacturer has agreed to settle the Kia Sorento class action lawsuit to avoid the cost and burden of ongoing litigation. The Kia crankshaft bolt defect settlement was preliminarily approved on Nov. 2, 2016.
Class Members who wish to exclude themselves from or object to the Kia Sorento settlement must do so no later than April 3, 2017.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members of the Kia Sorento settlement include: “All persons in the United States who currently own or lease or previously owned or leased a Class Vehicle in the United States.”
Under the terms of the Kia class action settlement, Class Vehicles include model year 2003-2006 Kia Sorento vehicles with a 3.5-liter engine.
Potential Award
Up to $4,900.
The Kia Sorento class action settlement provides reimbursement for certain out-of-pocket expenses for repairs related to the crankshaft pulley bolt failure.
The amount each Class Member is eligible to receive depends on several factors, including whether they are an original purchaser and still own the Class vehicle; they are an original purchaser of the Class vehicle but no longer own the vehicle; whether they purchased a used Class vehicle; and when the crankshaft pulley failure occurred.
Proof of Purchase
Class Members should submit documentation that shows they paid for parts, labor and/or towing related to a crankshaft pulley bolt failure.

i have 2005 kia sorento with a broken crankshaft bolt no one wants to do the job to repair it and replace harmonic balancer
I recently bought a kia sorento 2005 model with the 3.5 by engine .so far the bolt has broken off twice causing towing expense of $300. Then had to purchase one pulley from the agent’s and the sprocket to go with it costing $1200.00.I am living in Barbados West Indies an island in the Caribbean.
Yes I’m a 2nd owner if a 2006 Kia Sorrento and mine broke as well. I’m also interested in a 2nd law suit so they can be held liable to fix this!
Did you ever look into this? Facing same issue…
I’m a second owner of a 2006 Kia Sorento with 90k miles. This bolt JUST broke in my car and Kia is REFUSING to pay to fix it! I’m sooooo frustrated. Just because I’m the second owner doesn’t mean they aren’t on the hook to fix THEIR faulty product. Any other second owners running into this issue? I’m considering a second lawsuit to represent the second owners!

I’m also a second owner. How do we make it happened? I am NOT paying to fix they dumb engineering.
I’m also the 2nd owner of a 2006 Kia Sorento and I believe there needs to be a 2nd lawsuit. If I can’t figure out how to get this car fixed without losing my damn house, I will NEVER again buy another KIA and I will make sure everyone purchasing a new vehicle never does either.
It just happened to me bolt broke off in traffic
I haven’t received a check yet and was told it should be here two weeks ago. Would live to pay back my mother for what she put out to have my motor rebuilt. How long does it usually take to get a check?
nothing yet
nothing received yet at all no contact
Haven’t received my check to date. No notice either. Disheartening, after all the trouble I’ve dealt with during that time.
