According to our readers, checks worth as much as $168.87 were sent to Class Members who filed claims for the L.A. Tan class action settlement, and Verizon Wireless customers reported that they received as much as $13.58 from the Verizon class action settlement.
L.A. Tan Salon Fingerprint Data Class Action Settlement
The L.A. Tan settlement resolves a class action lawsuit alleging the tanning company violated an Illinois law called the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by collecting customers’ fingerprints without first obtaining their informed written consent.
Class Members of the L.A. Tan settlement includes all persons whose fingerprints were scanned at an L.A. Tan salon in Illinois between Nov. 13, 2013 and Aug. 11, 2016.
L.A. Tan denied the allegations but agreed to settle the biometric data class action lawsuit to avoid the burden and expense of ongoing litigation. Readers of Top Class Actions have reported receiving checks worth as much as $168.87:

The L.A. Tan Fingerprint Data Class Action Lawsuit is Sekura v. L.A. Tan Enterprises Inc., Case No. 2015 CH 16694, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, County Department, Chancery Division.
Verizon Wireless Family Share Plan Class Action Settlement
The Verizon Wireless settlement resolves a class action lawsuit alleging Verizon improperly billed some of its Family SharePlan customers. The plaintiffs alleged Verizon improperly billed customers for different per-minute rates for “after-allowance” minutes used by different phone lines, which allegedly breached customer contracts and violated state and federal law.
Class Members of the Verizon settlement included certain U.S. residents who were subscribed to a Verizon Wireless Family SharePlan between May 11, 2002 and May 10, 2006. The deadline to file a claim for the Verizon Wireless class action lawsuit passed on April 29, 2015.
