androgel lawsuitsA new AndroGel heart attack lawsuit has echoed similar claims found in existing litigation over heart attacks and strokes associated with other testosterone treatment drugs.

AndroGel is a drug designed to treat a condition called low testosterone or “Low-T.” As many males age, their bodies produce less androgens, a family of hormones that includes, testosterone.

In some men, the effects of this process are more pronounced than others, and can produce symptoms like decreased muscle mass, declining libido, and lethargy. The makers of AndroGel and other “Low-T” drugs, have allegedly promoted the idea that this is a condition that requires treatment, and drugs like AndroGel, which boost testosterone levels, are a safe and effective way to treat it. But AndroGel and other “Low-T” drugs may have dangerous testosterone product side effects.

This new AndroGel heart attack lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Darrell Cove. Cove was reportedly prescribed AndroGel and took it from 2000 to 2014 to treat Low-T.

However, in July 2011, Cove allegedly suffered from a blood clot in the heart, a form of heart attack. This required hospitalization and the installation of a stent to bypass the blockage. His testosterone product lawsuit contends that his medical problems were the result of his use of AndroGel. He is seeking to recoup the cost of his medical care, as well as legal fees and other costs stemming from his heart attack.

Cove’s AndroGel heart attack lawsuit alleges that AbbVie, the AndroGel drug maker, knew or reasonably should have been aware of the potential for their drug to cause these serious testosterone side effects.

To this end, the the AndroGel lawsuit cites a number of peer-reviewed medical studies, which strongly suggest a link between using testosterone drugs like AndroGel and an increased risk of strokes, heart attacks, and pulmonary embolism. While these medical problems of the brain, lungs and heart may not seem related, all of these conditions can be triggered by errant blood clots, which lodge in the blood vessels that feed critical tissues and organs.

Cove’s testosterone gel lawsuit, and other AndroGel heart attack lawsuits, have made the allegation that in spite of this, the makers of testosterone drugs have aggressively marketed these drugs, investing millions into their advertising and reaping billions in profits.

The AndroGel Heart Attack Lawsuit is Darrell Cove v. AbbVie Inc., et al., Case No. 1:14-cv-00307-PB, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire. The AndroGel MDL is In Re: AndroGel Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

In general, AndroGel heart attack lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
