The Spirit class action settlement resolves allegations from two separate lawsuits that claimed the airline company printed more than the last five digits of a credit or debit card number on customer receipts.

According to federal law, businesses are not allowed to print more than the last five digits of a payment card number or the expiration date as a preventative measure to help US consumers avoid identity theft or credit card fraud.

Spirit Airlines denied the allegations but agreed to pay $7.5 million to avoid the expense and uncertainity of ongoing litigation.

Class Members included “All individuals in the United States who: (i) made a payment to Spirit Airlines (ii) using a debit or credit card, and (iii) for which Spirit printed a point of sale receipt (iv) that displayed more than the last 5 digits of the card number (v) after August 29, 2012.”

The deadline to file a claim for the Spirit FACTA settlement passed on June 20, 2016.
