eliquis-side-effectsPfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb are facing a new Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit from a plaintiff couple alleging near fatal internal bleeding injuries.

According to the Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit, the wife had been prescribed Eliquis to treat her atrial fibrillation.

This medication was supposed to reduce the overall risk of blood clot injuries, but instead put her in danger with internal bleeding complications.

Plaintiff couple Charlene and Michael L. are filing this Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit, alleging the companies failed to warn them against the adverse effects of their drugs.

While reviewing different anticoagulants to treat her condition, Charlene and her physician had opted for Eliquis based on the marketing materials presented by the companies.

Eliquis Uncontrollable Bleeding Lawsuit Allegations

Eliquis is the third in a series of new generation anticoagulants, designed to compete against original blood thinner Warfarin.

Approved by the FDA in 2012, this medication was released as a joint effort between Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Like other anticoagulants, Eliquis is often prescribed to patients suffering from atrial fibrillation and are at risk for blood clot attack.

These medications work by inhibiting the body’s clotting mechanism, to overall improve the body’s circulation process.

However, the body cannot recover from internal bleeding injuries that may occur inside the body, requiring emergency intervention to save the patient’s life.

At this time, Warfarin is the only anticoagulant with a widely available bleeding antidote in the case of internal bleeding.

Previously Warfarin had been the only option to patients needing anticoagulant treatment, which required patients to frequently see their doctors for dose adjustments.

Eliquis and the other new generation anticoagulants were marketed to be more convenient and superior to Warfarin, but lacked the precautions the original blood thinner required.

Even though this is a highly dangerous complication, the manufacturing companies of new generation anticoagulants allegedly failed to mention it on their respective medications’ labels.

During the time of her Eliquis prescription, Charlene had always used the drug for its intended purpose and did not deviate from prescription instructions or doctor’s advice.

However Charlene still experienced uncontrollable internal bleeding, which required emergency treatment to stop.

In their Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit, Charlene and her husband allege they suffered permanent and life changing injuries due to the medication.

Charlene states that she never would have taken Eliquis if she had been aware of the risks of uncontrollable internal bleeding.

She and Michael are filing this Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit against Pfizer and Bristol-Myers, for failure to warn and multiple counts of negligence.

The Eliquis Uncontrollable Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 37·2016·00018332·CU·MT·CTL, in the Superior Court of the State of California County of San Diego
