Invokana-Induced-Kidney-FailureJohnson & Johnson is facing a new Invokana lawsuit from a Wisconsin man alleging the drug caused him chronic kidney failure.

The claim states that the Invokana induced kidney failure led the man to suffer severe and permanent health problems, and he must continue to be vigilant about additional signs of kidney failure.

Plaintiff Wayne L. was prescribed Invokana on July 2014, to treat his type-2 diabetes.

Wayne and his physician had come to the decision to use Invokana based on the advertisements provided from Johnson & Johnson.

Invokana was supposed to help balance his insulin levels and lower his blood sugar levels, as well as stave off other diabetic symptoms.

However, Wayne discovered he was suffering from alleged Invokana induced kidney failure, which was diagnosed sometime around September 2014.

At no point before or after his prescription was Wayne or his physician warned against the possibility of Invokana induced kidney failure, the lawsuit states.

At all times relevant, Wayne had used Invokana for its intended purpose while following all prescription instructions and physician advice.

Even though he was diligent while taking this medication, it did not stop Wayne from developing chronic kidney damage.

Furthermore, Wayne did not discover the risk of Invokana induced kidney failure until after his prescription ended.

Overview of Invokana Kidney Damage

Invokana was approved by the FDA in March 2013, and is a member of the class of drugs known as sodium-glucose contransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.

These medications work by stopping the body from reabsorbing glucose, which prevents the body’s blood sugar levels from reaching dangerous levels.

However, the excess glucose is filtered through the kidneys and is expelled through urination, which means that the drugs directly interact with the kidneys.

While this treatment mechanism works well for balancing blood sugar levels and insulin, this has allegedly resulted in numerous cases of Invokana induced kidney failure.

The FDA has recently warned patients and the medical community against Invokana kidney damage, and that other SGLT2 inhibitors may pose similar risks.

Even though this risk may cause serious health impairments in patients, Johnson & Johnson allegedly concealed this information from patients.

Wayne claims that Johnson & Johnson either knew or should have known the risk of Invokana induced kidney failure, and that they had the responsibility of warning the patient population and medical community.

Wayne states that he never would have taken Invokana if he had known the risk of kidney failure. He is filing this Invokana lawsuit, seeking multiple counts of negligence and failure to warn.

This Invokana Lawsuit is Case No. 3:216-cv-05316, in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, Trenton Division.

In general, Invokana lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
