eliquis-bleeding-gastrointestinalA Colorado couple has filed an Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit against Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer for damages allegedly sustained while using Eliquis.

Plaintiffs Jordana and Tyler R. claim that while Jordana took Eliquis, also known as apixaban, she suffered severe physical, emotional and economic injuries as a result of the drug.

Jordana reportedly suffered from Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding and hemorrhaging which required blood transfusions and extensive hospitalization.

The plaintiffs accuse Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer of negligently and fraudulently representing to the medical community and to the plaintiffs that Eliquis had been tested and was found to be safe and effective for its intended uses.

According to this Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit, the claims made by Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb about the drug’s safety were made intentionally to defraud and deceive the plaintiff.

Jordana experienced serious and dangerous side effects including life-threatening hemorrhaging, physical pain and mental anguish.

Eliquis Uncontrollable Bleeding Side Effects

Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer received approval by the FDA to market their anticoagulant, Eliquis, in 2012.

It was designed to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation and to prevent blood clots in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery.

Eliquis was created to compete with warfarin, the market standard for blood thinners that has been prescribed for decades by doctors. It was originally promoted as superior to warfarin which requires a strict diet and regular blood monitoring.

However, many patients have reported adverse events including Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding.

Eliquis does not have an antidote to uncontrollable bleeding like warfarin does and this complication can lead to life-threatening outcomes.

Many patients, including Jordana and Tyler, have brought product liability lawsuits against the manufacturers of drugs including Eliquis and others in the same class.

This Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit claims that not only did Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb fraudulently market Eliquis, but it also committed fraud during a study leading up to FDA approval.

Jordana claims that Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb did not put an adequate warning on the package. She claims that there was not adequate warning regarding the lack of antidote and the significance of that problem for patients who began to bleed.

The plaintiffs accuse the drug companies of aggressively marketing Eliquis directly to the public via TV and print. Allegedly, the defendants overstated the drug’s efficacy in preventing stroke and systemic embolism.

The couple bring claims of design defect, manufacturing defect, failure to warn, strict liability, negligence, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, fraudulent concealment, negligent misrepresentation, fraud and violation of consumer protection laws.
