A California man recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, alleging the company’s Xarelto drug caused fatal Xarelto side effects for his late mother.
According to the Xarelto lawsuit, the plaintiff’s late mother began taking Xarelto around September 2, 2014 and continued until she experienced an intracranial hemorrhage on September 11, 2014.
These fatal Xarelto side effects led to her death a few days later on September 16, 2014, according to the claim.
The lawsuit alleges that Janssen was aware of the severe and fatal Xarelto side effects linked with their drug, but failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about these problems.
Instead, the company continued to aggressively market the anticoagulant as safe and effective.
Xarelto Background
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is an anticoagulant drug manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.
Xarelto is currently one of the most popular anticoagulant medications available on the market, and is generally prescribed for the treatment of blood clots.
Blood clots can lead to extremely dangerous conditions that, in some cases, can end up being fatal. This is why blood thinners like Xarelto are becoming increasingly common.
However, in some instances, blood clots can actually perform a life-saving function.
In extreme internal bleeding situations such as a serious accident or emergency surgery, the body uses blood clots to slow the bleeding, which can prevent an injured party from losing too much blood before medical help can arrive on the scene.
If a patient is taking Xarelto or another blood thinner, however, they may not be able to form these life-saving blood clots in an internal bleeding emergency.
Instead, Xarelto patients can wind up suffering from significant bleeding or even fatal Xarelto side effects.
Xarelto Lawsuits
Plaintiffs involved in recent Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuits include a variety of serious and fatal Xarelto side effects. These include:
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (GI bleeding)
- Rectal bleeding
- Uterine bleeding
- Hemorrhaging
- Brain hemorrhaging
- Hermarthrosis (bleeding into joint spaces)
- Bloody stool
- Minor bleeding (nosebleeds, heavy menstrual flow)
Unfortunately, these serious Xarelto side effects can lead to permanent injury or even death.
Xarelto Internal Bleeding Lawsuits
Filing a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of someone who has suffered from fatal Xarelto side effects, and cannot bring a loved one back to life.
However, a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.
If you or someone you love has experienced severe or even fatal Xarelto side effects, you may be able to file a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit.
The Fatal Xarelto Side Effects Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-14130, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
