Cipro-SJS-RashThough fluoroquinolone antibiotic drugs like Cipro have steadily increased in popularity, a growing number of patients are reporting serious side effects, including a Cipro SJS rash.

Fluoroquinolones, a group of antibiotics used by millions of Americans each year, are prescribed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections.

However, adverse event reports and lawsuits are increasingly linking Cipro with serious side effects, including the life-threatening Cipro SJS rash.

While most Cipro side effects are mild and go away on their own without further treatment, a Cipro SJS rash can result in permanent damage or even death.

Cipro Stevens Johnson Syndrome

Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or SJS, is a serious antibiotic side effect that can develop into what essentially looks like a severe burn.

Indeed, many patients with a Cipro SJS rash are treated in the hospital’s burn unit due to the similarities.

When a person develops a Cipro SJS rash, the top layer of the affected skin begins to blister and peel, which is often very painful.

Even in cases when the rashes are treatable, patients can be left with serious complications. Some patients may develop severe eye pain or other eye problems, secondary skin infection, and internal organ damage.

On top of this, many Cipro SJS rash patients are left with permanent scarring where their rash used to be.

Unfortunately, some patients who suffer from a Cipro SJS rash end up dying from this serious side effect.

Patients for whom the condition is more severe, meaning the rash covers over 30 percent of their skin, are considered to have developed TEN, or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. This is a term used to reclassify the extent and severity of the condition, and also indicates an increased risk of fatality.

A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology looked at a variety of Cipro users compared with those who used other medicines over an extended period of time.

According to the study, those who used Cipro were at an increased risk of developing an SJS rash than those who used other medications.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is aware of this increased risk, and has issued a drug safety warning in response.

The warning recommends that patients avoid fluoroquinolones like Cipro when there are safer alternatives available for treatment.

Cipro SJS Rash Lawsuits

A growing number of injured patients are filing lawsuits after experiencing a severe allergic reaction to Cipro, including Cipro SJS rash.

These lawsuits allege that Cipro, as well as other fluoroquinolone drugs, can cause serious injuries, and that drug manufacturers failed to adequately warn about these risks.

Though filing a Cipro lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering from someone who has experience an allergic reaction to Cipro, or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to at least compensate for financial expenses that may have been incurred through medical bills and lost wages.

If you or someone you love has suffered from a Cipro SJS rash or another allergic reaction to Cipro, you may be able to file a lawsuit.
