UPDATE 6/12/13: Consumers who want to participate in the Chinese Drywall Settlement Program must now register their claims before they will be allowed to file a claim. The deadline to register a claim is June 24, 2013. The deadline to file a Claim Form is August 26, 2013. Click here for more details on how to register and file your claim.
A federal judge last week preliminarily approved four class settlements involving drywall suppliers and insurers embroiled in the massive Chinese drywall class action lawsuit MDL, worth a combined $17.4 million.
The Chinese drywall settlements cover four separate classes involved in the MDL, which combines nearly 10,000 or more cases against Chinese drywall makers, importers, exporters, homebuilders, developers, drywall suppliers, insurers and others. Plaintiffs claim the tainted Chinese drywall caused extensive property damage to homes by emitting sulfide gases and other toxic chemicals and noxious odors that corroded the plumbing, electrical wiring and appliances.
At least six class action settlements have already been reached in the Chinese drywall class action lawsuit MDL, including an $80 million settlement allocated to pay for and/or reimburse certain Class Members for the costs of fixing affected properties and for paying personal injury claims.
Class Members in the latest Chinese drywall settlement will begin receiving notices no later than February 4, which should include individual mailed notices as well as ads in newspapers, magazines and other media, according to the order.
