The Verizon settlement resolves allegations that the company used a third-party debt collector to place unsolicited and prerecorded calls to cellphones in violation of the TCPA.

In addition, plaintiff John Lofton also alleged that these calls were recorded without consent in violation of California privacy laws.

Class Members included two different groups:

TCPA Class Members included: all U.S. residents who received one (or more) telephone calls to their cellphones from a representative of Collecto in its capacity as a third-party vendor engaged by Verizon to collect pre-writeoff debts since June 14, 2008.

IPA Class Members included: all California residents who received a call on their cellphones from Collecto in its capacity as a third-party vendor engaged by Verizon to collect Pre-Writeoff Debts, where the call was answered by the recipient between Sept. 10, 2010 to the present date.

Verizon denied the allegations but agreed to pay $4 million to settle the class action.

The deadline to file a claim for the Verizon class action settlement passed on May 4, 2016.

I communicated with the attorneys handling the case via email and had all my questions answered cuz I thought this was too good to be true.
