Avelox-Stevens-Johnson-SyndromeAvelox, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, carries with it a risk of a severe Avelox skin reaction known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or SJS.

Avelox (moxifloxacin), is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

Fluoroquinolones have gone through a number of different generations over the years, and Avelox belongs to the fourth generation of this synthetic family.

Researchers that worked to develop these synthetic medications hoped that their synthetic nature would limit the number of side effects linked with the drugs.

However, studies showed that Avelox and other synthetic drugs have about the same number of side effects as other antibiotics.

Unfortunately, one of these side effects is the severe and even fatal Avelox skin reaction known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or SJS.

This Avelox skin reaction has been noted and warned about by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA warned that the SJS Avelox skin reaction is a “severe skin rash,” which can cause permanent damage or even become fatal.

Avelox Skin Reaction

The serious side effect Stevens Johnson Syndrome has been associated with a number of different antibiotic medications, including Avelox.

Any drug will come with certain side effects, the most common of which are often mild skin reactions or other side effects that go away on their own without further treatment. However, even mild side effects can develop into something much more severe, including Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

What is Stevens Johnson Syndrome?

Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a life-threatening skin condition, and symptoms of this disease should be considered a medical emergency.

The skin condition is essentially an Avelox skin reaction, but can become so severe the symptoms resemble burns, requiring treatment in the hospital’s burn unit.

As the Avelox skin reaction progresses, a purple or red rash spreads quickly across the skin, blistering and letting the top layer of skin die and shed off.

SJS rashes are painful, and can rapidly cover up to 30 percent of the body. Once the body has been covered by more than 30 percent with this Avelox skin reaction, the condition is reclassified as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, or TEN.

TEN is a more severe and dangerous form of SJS, and is linked with a much higher risk of fatality.

Avelox Skin Reaction Lawsuits

Avelox skin reaction lawsuits accuse Bayer, the company responsible for manufacturing the drug, of downplaying the severity of Avelox side effects like Stevens Johnson Syndrome. Plaintiffs claim that, had they been adequately warned of the dangers surrounding Avelox, they would have chosen a safer alternative.

If you have experienced Stevens Johnson Syndrome or other serious symptoms after taking Avelox, you should seek medical help immediately.

Filing an Avelox skin reaction lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of these conditions, or bring a loved one back to life, but it can help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.

If you or someone you love has experienced these symptoms or has been diagnosed with Stevens Johnson Syndrome or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis after taking Avelox or a similar drug, you may have reason to file an Avelox SJS lawsuit.
