According to reader comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the Meredith magazine settlement began receiving checks worth as much as $32.40 on July 29, 2016.
If you filed a claim for the Meredith Corporation class action settlement, keep checking your mailbox because your payout should be on its way!
The Meredith settlement resolves allegations that the magazine publisher violated Michigan’s Video Rental Privacy Act by dispersing subscribers’ names, addresses, which magazines they subscribe to and other information to third parties.
Meredith denied the allegations arguing that the VRPA doesn’t apply to magazines but a federal judge disagreed stating that a “reasonable interpretation” of the wording “other written material” covered within the Act could include magazines.
Both parties agreed to the terms of the settlement which included a $7.5 million settlement fund and a restriction on Meredith from further disclosing personal information regarding its subscribers to third parties, unless the company receives prior express consent.
Class Members of the settlement included individuals with a Michigan street address who bought a subscription to a Meredith magazine between 2009 and 2014.
Meredith magazines include: Ageless Iron, AllRecipes, American Baby, American Patchwork & Quilting, Beautiful Homes, Better Homes and Gardens, Country Gardens, Country Home, Creative Home, Decorating, Diabetic Living, Do It Yourself, Eating Well, Every Day with Rachael Ray (nka Rachael Ray Every Day), Family Circle, FamilyFun, Fitness, Garden, Deck & Landscape, Garden Ideas, Heart Healthy Living, Ladies Home Journal, Living the Country Life, Midwest Living, More, Parents, Ready Made, Renovation Style, Scrapbooks etc., Ser Padres, Successful Farming, Traditional Home, Wood.
The deadline to file a claim for the Meredith magazine class action settlement passed on June 25, 2016.
