Details: The FedEx Office settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, titled Razmig Tchoboian v. FedEx Office and Print Services Inc., et al., that alleges FedEx violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) by printing credit/debit card receipts that show too many numbers on the card. The alleged FACTA violations occurred at FedEx Office self-service machines located in the store. The receipts from the kiosks allegedly displayed the first two digits and the last four digits of their debit card numbers, and were printed at FedEx Office retail store locations nationwide.

FACTA prohibits merchants from printing more than the last 5 digits of the card number or the expiration date on any electronically printed sales receipts in order to protect consumers from identity theft. Violating FACTA carries a penalty of between $100 and $1,000 per violation.

FedEx denies it did anything wrong and maintains the numbers it printed on the receipts did not put customers at risk for identity theft because they were not personally identifying numbers.

Class Members of the FedEx Office class action settlement include all U.S. consumers who can present an original or copy of a printed FedEx Office receipt printed between April 2009 and April 2010 displaying the first two and last four digits of their credit or debit card number.

Class Members that submit a Claim Form no later than February 2, 2013 will receive $50 FedEx store card that may be used at any FedEx Office location in the U.S. for the following FedEx Office Express Pay services: copy machines (black and white and color copies), facsimiles, computer rentals, Lapnet Stations, and Sony Picture Stations.

A Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for April 8, 2013.
