The TransUnion class action settlement resolves allegations that the company provided more personal information to grantors or insurance companies that is allowed under the FCRA to third parties who used the information to make pre-approved credit offers.

TransUnion denied all claims of wrongdoing but agreed to pay $75 million to settle in order to avoid the cost of further litigation.

Class Members of the TransUnion FCRA class action settlement included all consumers who “had an open credit account or an open line of credit from a credit grantor (including, for instance, automobile loans, bank credit cards, department store credit cards, other retail store credit cards, finance company loans, mortgage loans, and student loans) located in the United States anytime from January 1, 1987 to May 28, 2008.”

Those who submitted a claim for the TransUnion class action settlement initially received either six-months of free credit monitoring services or nine months of enhanced credit monitoring services.

In addition, Class Members who also registered for a possible cash payment where told that the Court may grant settlement checks at least two years after the final approval of the settlement, IF there was sufficient money left in the settlement fund.

The deadline to file a Claim Form for the TransUnion class action settlement passed on Sept. 24, 2008.

I rec’d a check for $21.06 from TransUnion. My check doesn’t say it is from TransUnion Corporation Privacy Litigation. My check has Redress Administrator P.O. BOX 2586, Faribault, MN 55021-9587 on US BANK check # 120212, account# 13170391. Is this legit? It looks nothing like the check on this website. My check has VOID after 180 days.
