Earth Friendly ‘Natural’ Class Action Settlement Checks Mailed

Top Class Actions readers are starting to receive checks in the mail from a class action settlement that accused Earth Friendly cleaning products of deceptively labeling its products as having “natural” ingredients.

According to reader comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who submitted a timely and valid claim for the Earth Friendly class action settlement started receiving checks worth as much as $24 on May 23, 2016.

The Earth Friendly class action settlement resolves allegations that the company intentionally misled consumers into buying a product they believed was “natural” when it actually contained unnatural ingredients such as methylisothiazolinone (MIT) which the plaintiffs claim is a powerful allergen and skin irritant.

According to the class action lawsuit, Class Members paid extra for the Earth Friendly cleaning products based on its “natural” labeling.

Earth Friendly manufacturer Venus Laboratories denied the allegations but agreed to pay $925,000 and alter the product label to settle the lawsuit.

Class Members of the Earth Friendly settlement included all U.S. residents who bought a cleaning product labeled as “All-Natural,” “100% Natural,” “Naturally-derived,” “Plant-based,” “Plant-derived,” or “Natural” between Jan. 23, 2011 and Nov. 5, 2015.

The deadline to file a claim for the Earth Friendly “natural” class action settlement passed on Feb. 15, 2016.
