iStock-Transvaginal-Mesh-EthiconMore vaginal mesh implant complaints continue to be filed against Boston Scientific, alleging that the manufacturer failed to warn patients of possible surgical mesh problems.

According to Texas plaintiff Mary Lee G., who recently filed a short form complaint joining the pending Vaginal Mesh multidistrict litigation, Boston Scientific knew or should have known about the risks of surgical mesh problems associated with their vaginal mesh implant.

Mary Lee contends that the vaginal mesh implant she received surgically in April 2013, manufactured and sold by Boston Scientific, was defective and dangerous, causing her to sustain serious injuries and permanent vaginal mesh implant complications.

According to the vaginal mesh lawsuit, Boston Scientific continued to market and promote the surgical mesh as a safe and effective treatment for pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence, despite knowing there were severe risks.

Possible Vaginal Mesh Implant Complications

It is believed that the surgical design of Boston Scientific’s vaginal mesh implant products inhibits surrounding tissue from receiving nutrients and oxygen, thereby causing impaired healing.

This can lead to surgical mesh problems that may require further mesh surgery.  Complications from vaginal mesh implant products are life changing and can be irreversible.

These surgical mesh problems include:

  • Mesh erosion through the vaginal tissue
  • Exposure of extrusion of mesh
  • Painful sexual intercourse
  • Perforation or puncture of the bladder, intestines and bowels, as well as blood vessels around the vaginal wall
  • Recurrent Pelvic Organ Prolapse
  • Recurrent Stress Urinary Incontinence
  • Urinary problems
  • Vaginal bleeding

Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit Information

Many women, like Mary Lee, who experienced surgical mesh problems, have had to undergo multiple revision surgeries to attempt to manage symptoms and have since filed vaginal mesh implant lawsuits against Boston Scientific and other vaginal mesh manufacturers.

Tens of thousands of federal vaginal mesh lawsuits have been consolidated in multidistrict litigation (MDL) in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia under Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.

Additionally, thousands more are pending in state courts.

An MDL allows lawsuits with a particular product to be coordinated under one judge for the purpose of avoiding duplicate discovery, inconsistent rulings and to conserve the resources of the parties, witnesses and the court.

When lawsuits are consolidated as a multidistrict litigation, each retains its own identity.

The Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-04329 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia Charleston Division and the Vaginal Mesh MDL is In re: Boston Scientific Corp. Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation MDL No. 2326 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
