Iovate-protein-spikingTop Class Actions readers are starting to receive checks in the mail from a class action settlement stemming over allegations that the makers of Six Star, MuscleTech, EPIQ and fuel:one misled consumers by “spiking” protein products with non-protein ingredients.

According to reader comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page,Class Members who submitted a valid claim for the Iovate Health class action settlement began receiving checks worth as much as $224.96 on May 19, 2016.

The Iovate Health class action settlement resolves allegations that supplement maker engaged in what is referred to as “protein spiking” which consists of a manufacturer adding various ingredients that deceptively show up as “proteins” under certain nitrogen-based protein testing methods.

Class Members of the protein product settlement included anyone in the U.S. who bought affected Iovate protein products between 2011 and 2015.

Protein customers who were able to provide receipts, could claim up to $300, while those who couldn’t provide a proof of purchase were still able to claim $50.

In addition to creating a $2.5 million Settlement Fund, Iovate also agreed to alter the way its protein products are labeled, packaged and marketed.

Iovate did not admit to any wrongdoings but agreed to settle in order to avoid the risk of trial.

The deadline to file a claim for the protein products class action settlement passed on Feb. 8, 2016.

    I contacted the administrator yesterday and they said I had submitted a valid claim but that they did not send me a check and do not know why. Will have someone research and get back to me. Well I am sure the money is all already paid out and there are no reserves for errors or oversights…

    I have not gotten the last 4 checks that I signed up for and received a claim number…crazy but I guess since there are only like 5 companies that payout all of the claims for these lawsuits that they can deny anyone they want to regardless of whether or not it is a valid claim.
