Eliquis BleedingIn recent Eliquis lawsuit news, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer Inc. are facing a new Eliquis bleeding lawsuit brought by a Louisiana man who suffered serious injuries allegedly brought on the popular blood thinning medication.

Due to a risk of blood clots and stroke, plaintiff Lee H.’s doctor prescribed Eliquis to help prevent stroke due to atrial fibrillation.

Eliquis Bleeding Lawsuit Allegations

According to his Eliquis bleeding lawsuit, Lee used the drug for its intended purpose and did not deviate from his physician’s instructions or the warning label.

Even though Lee took the drug according to instruction, he suffered serious Eliquis side effects that could have been potentially fatal. His Eliquis bleeding lawsuit details his injuries, which included cerebral hemorrhaging and other internal bleeding.

Lee’s Eliquis lawsuit alleges that although Eliquis side effects can be potentially fatal, the drug’s warning label does not provide adequate warning of the risks associated with Eliquis.

According to Eliquis lawsuit news stories, Bristol-Myers and Pfizer are facing other similar Eliquis bleeding lawsuits.

The lawsuits center on allegations that the drug may cause uncontrollable internal bleeding injuries, with no indication of these potential adverse events on the Eliquis warning label.

Overview of Eliquis Side Effects

Eliquis was approved by the FDA in 2012 and was released as a collaborative effort between Bristol-Myers and Pfizer.

At the time of its approval, there was growing controversy surrounding the bleeding risk of new-generation anticoagulants.

Lee’s lawsuit alleges that the FDA approved Eliquis based in large part on clinical trials known as ARISTOTLE, but that the trials may not have been trustworthy.

Like the other anticoagulants, Eliquis works by inhibiting the body’s clotting ability to lower the chances of blood clot formation.

However, unlike an older blood thinner called Warfarin, Eliquis lacks a reversal agent in the case of internal bleeding injuries. Even though there is serious risk attached to this Eliquis side effect, Lee’s lawsuit alleges that Bristol-Myers and Pfizer failed to warn patients against the bleeding risks.

Lee’s Eliquis bleeding lawsuit alleges that the pharmaceutical companies deliberately concealed these problems, and that concealment led him to suffer from serious internal bleeding injuries.

The Eliquis Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No: 2:16-cv-03714, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
