The class action settlement resolves allegations that Dairy Farmers of America and Hiland Dairy violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act by conspiring together to inflate the price of raw farm milk which in turn raised the prices of dairy products.

Plaintiffs claim that this was done by intentionally suppressing the supply of farm milk through herd retirements thereby restricting price competition for farm milk.

As a result of this conspiracy, Missouri residents were forced to pay more for cream, half & half, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and ice cream, the lawsuit states.

Dairy Farmers of America Inc. and Hiland Dairy deny any liability, but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the cost of further litigation.

Class Members of the dairy settlement included Missouri residents who purchased milk or cream items supplied by Dairy Farmers of America Inc. and/or Hiland Dairy since Jan. 1, 2004.

The deadline to file a claim for the Missouri milk class action settlement passed on Jan. 7, 2016.
