Top Class Actions has been following the MacKeeper software class action lawsuit since 2014.
The MacKeeper settlement resolves allegations that ZeoBIT tricked consumers into purchasing an upgrade version of the MacKeeper software by promising that it would enhance an Apple computer’s speed and security.
Plaintiff Holly Yencha says she downloaded a free trial version of MacKeeper which prompted her to conduct a diagnostic scan. That scan allegedly showed thousands of issues with her computer which encouraged Yencha to purchase the full version of the MacKeeper software to fully repair her computer.
However, the MacKeeper class action lawsuit claimed that neither the free trial nor the full version of MacKeeper software was able to perform reliable diagnostic testing.
Class Members of the MacKeeper settlement include all U.S. Class Members who purchased MacKeeper on or before July 8, 2015.
ZeoBIT denied the allegations but agreed to the $2 million settlement to avoid the cost of further litigation.
The deadline to file a claim for the MacKeeper class action settlement passed on Nov. 30, 2015.
