Top Class Actions has been following the vigorously-fought Comcast class action lawsuit since 2013.
The Comcast antitrust class action lawsuit filed by Stanford Glaberson alleged that the cable television provider unlawfully monopolized the Philadelphia market which resulted in customers paying higher prices for TV.
Comcast ended up appealing the case to the U.S. Supreme Court where it was determined that certification was inappropriate because the plaintiffs had not established the proposed Class had enough in common.
However, a revised complaint survived a dismissal bid in 2013 and the court allowed the plaintiff to resubmit an amended Comcast class action lawsuit.
Glaberson then filed an amended Comcast class action lawsuit that included only a Class of Philadelphia-area residents. By 2014, a $50 million class action settlement was reached between both parties in the long-running antitrust class action lawsuit.
Comcast denied the allegations but agreed to settle the class action to avoid the cost of further litigation.
Class Members of the Comcast class action settlement included all cable television customers who subscribed at any time between Jan. 1, 2003 to Dec. 31, 2008 to cable TV services (above and beyond basic cable) from Comcast or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates. The services must have been provided in one of the following Pennsylvania counties: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia.
The deadline to file a claim for the Comcast settlement passed on July 10, 2015.
