Lipitor diabetes lawsuitsWomen who have filed Lipitor type-2 diabetes lawsuits are seeing them centralized in South Carolina, where the Lipitor lawsuits are being grouped to help streamline the process of discovery, depositions and more. Recently, a judge has approved fact sheets that will help group the plaintiffs by certain subjects.

The number of Lipitor type-2 diabetes lawsuits that are part of this multidistrict litigation (MDL) is already 600 or more, according to recently filed documents, making it all the more important for Lipitor class action lawsuit attorneys to be able to group side effects victims under similar circumstances.

The fact sheet is extensive for these Lipitor type-2 diabetes lawsuits, including roughly 20 items of various conditions that could also lead to elevated blood sugar levels, including weight gain as well as conditions that it can cause, including stroke. Plaintiffs will also need to provide where they have lived and what, if any, cholesterol medications they are taking. While it may seem like a significant amount of information, it is required to help establish case types in the event of a bellwether trial.

Many of these cases filed by Lipitor class action lawsuit attorneys occurred as a result of a recent label change made by drug maker Pfizer Inc. It indicated that serum glucose levels could be elevated for women who are taking it to lower their cholesterol levels. However, Lipitor lawsuits centralized in South Carolina and in other courts allege that this does not clearly state the risk of developing diabetes.

Not only that, the plaintiffs claim, but the company knew or should have known that the drug had this effect. Several drugs in the statin class used to treat cholesterol have been linked to blood sugar problems for several years. Lipitor simply has been linked to the highest rates.

The Lipitor diabetes MDL is In re: Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) Marketing, Salespractices and Products Liability Litigation (No. II), MDL No. 2502, in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

In general, Lipitor lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
