Anthem Dental Provider Class Action Settlement

By Matt O’Donnell

Anthem Blue CrossAnthem Health Plans has reached a class action lawsuit settlement with dental providers over allegations it stiffed them out of full payment for insurance claims. If you are a dentist or dental practice that provided or arranged services for a patient with a Dental Plan issued by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut, you may be eligible for a cash payment from the $3.8 million class action lawsuit settlement.

The Anthem settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Rutt v. Anthem Health Plans, Inc., that alleges Anthem reimbursed dentists participating in Anthem’s provider network in amounts less than required under their Provider Contracts for claims for services provided during the period April 15, 1996 through April 14, 2002.

Anthem denies any wrongdoing, but has proposed a $3.8 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.

Class Members of the Anthem dental class action settlement include all participating providers who provided any services to any individual enrolled in or covered by a Dental and/or Dental Plan issued or administered by Anthem Health Plans, Inc. pursuant to any Provider Contract in force at any time during the period April 15, 1996 through April 14, 2002.

As part of the class action lawsuit settlement, Anthem has agreed to certain commitments regarding its policies and procedures, as described in the Settlement Notice available at www.noticeclass.com/RuttSettlement.

Anthem will also distribute cash payments to all eligible, individual dentist Settlement Class Members that practiced under a Provider Contract and who rendered services at any time during the class period for which a claim was submitted and reimbursed under that Provider Contract.

The amount of money you’re eligible to receive from the class action lawsuit settlement will depend on a variety of factors, including how many dentists file valid claims, and how many calendar years you were a Participating Provider during the class period.

The only way to receive money from the Anthem dental provider class action settlement, however, is to submit a claim form no later than August 9, 2012.
