Verizon DSL Speed Class Action Lawsuit

VerizonA California woman has filed a class action lawsuit against Verizon for advertising DSL speeds that are technically impossible to achieve for many customers who sign up for the service.

Patricia Allen alleges in the Verizon DSL speed class action lawsuit that she was paying $24.99 per month for DSL service but a salesperson talked her into upgrading to a faster $34.99 plan. The new plan was supposed to deliver Internet speeds of 1.5 Mb per second, but even on a good day she could only achieve half that speed, she claims in the class action lawsuit.

Allen claims when she complained to Verizon, a technician told her faster speeds were impossible because she lived too far from a Verizon service center. Only customers who live within a certain distance to the central office are able to achieve the top speeds advertised. Allen says the technician told her the best she would ever be able to achieve was 768k per second.

Allen says she asked to switch to a slower connection plan and demanded a refund, but Verizon refused to issue a refund.

Allen is now suing Verizon on behalf of all persons and entities in California who are located a certain distance known to Verizon from a Verizon central office and who purchased the Verizon 1.5 Mb per second DSL service. The Verizon DSL speed class action lawsuit is seeking compensatory damages, restitution and other relief for breach of contract, and unlawful, unfair and fraudulent business practices.

AT&T reached a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it couldn’t provide advertised DSL speeds earlier this year.

The Verizon DSL Speed Class Action Lawsuit case is Patricia Allen v. Verizon Communications, Case No. BC482385, Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

    I’m having same issue and even pay extra for hotspot which runs so slow I just get errors when try to run speed test

    Verizon is in the habit of installing DSL promising “High Speed Internet” which doesn’t meet the FCC definition, as well as charging to maintain phone lines they are not maintaining. Anyone know of a class action lawsuit for that? Thanks!

    I have Verizon Unlimited $75 a month prepaid it’s supposed to be unlimited talk text and web and Wi-Fi hotspot they said I would have 25 Megs per second on Wi-Fi hotspot I’ve never had that I have two Megs per second for about 2 months and now it’s slowly going away to 500 gigabytes per second or less
