McDonald’s Monopoly Game Class Action Lawsuit
By Sarah Pierce
Plaintiff Michael Siegel alleges in the McDonald’s Monopoly game class action lawsuit that McDonald’s promotion violated the Illinois Prizes and Gifts Act, which prohibits deceptively written promotional prize offers made to Illinois residents.
“The Act requires a written promotional prize offer to contain in a clear and conspicuous statement information regarding the value and restrictions of the prize offers,” the McDonald’s Monopoly game class action lawsuit states, adding that violations of the IPGA entitle consumers to receive either $500 or twice the amount of the prize they would have won, whichever is greater.
The McDonald’s Monopoly game promotion class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all Illinois persons or entities who, between September 27, 2011 and November 5, 2011, received a Monopoly game stamp that violated the written disclosures required by the IPGA. It is seeking class certification, statutory damages and interest, and attorneys’ fees.
