Flea & Tick Product False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit

By Mike Holter

Advantage Flea & Tick ProductsA class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of dog and cat owners alleging, among other things, that Bayer Healthcare, LLC and Merial Limited regularly make false and deceptive claims in advertisements for their flea and tick products.
According to the class action lawsuit, Bayer and Merial collectively sell approximately $2 billion in flea and tick products annually, including Bayer’s line of Advantage, Advantix, K9 Advantix and Advocate products, and Merial’s line of Frontline and Certifect products. These products are sold as treatments for dogs and cats suffering with fleas, ticks, adult flea eggs, larvae, mosquito, heartworm, ear mites and sarcoptic mange. While each one of individual products targets only a limited subset of the pet aliments, all of the products target fleas and their larvae.
The problem, the flea and tick product class action lawsuit states, is that Bayer and Merial make false and/or misleading claims about what these products do. These allegedly false advertising claims include that the products:
* are self-dispersing and cover the entire surface area of the dog or cat’s body when applied in a single limited spot;
* are effective for one month and require monthly application to continue to be effective;
* do not enter the blood stream of the pet and instead move across the pet’s skin to cover the pet; and
* are waterproof and remain effective following shampoo treatments, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight.
The Bayer and Merial Flea and Tick Product Class Action Lawsuit is seeking to recover damages on behalf of all consumers who purchased the products, as well as an injunction barring Bayer and Merial from continuing to misrepresent what their flea and tick products can do.

    I need to talk to a lawyer is all I’m going to say.

  2. Jeff Sirivath says:

    My sweetest and most loyal pooch passed away in my arms early Monday morning on 3/20/23. She was completely healthy and full of life but as soon as I applied K9 Advantix on her skin she was lethargic and weak by the evening vomiting all night and urinating in the house which she never does!! I was unable to rush her to the ER in time before she breathed her final breath. I am so heartbroken and lost without her now. She was my service dog and emotional support animal. I am forever traumatized by the loss of my poor pooch due to this toxic poison they’re marketing to all pet owners. Please please please I would like to be contacted by an attorney regarding this class action lawsuit..

      Our dog passed in five days of me putting this on her and I was looking for a class action lawsuit.

  3. Rosella says:

    I’ve used this product this product is a bad product Frontline Plus my dog lost her hair on top of her back by the first time that I use this product on my 1-year-old puppy lost the hair on top of her back I like to be added to this complaint this product is toxic for dogs and poison for their skin

  4. Deborah Friend says:

    I would also like to be added to this lawsuit. I’ve had beloved pets over several years, that have not only been injured by Frontline and dvantage products, but frankly, being a low income family, and because of their lies and false claims about their products, year after year, my pets have led completely miserable lives. Their quality of life is non existent, due to the sheer torture of the fleas they have and the lack of a product I can afford, that actually works. I have been mentally tortured knowing they are suffering with this horror parasite and not being able to help because I have no money left after wasting it on these bogus products. Shame on these horrible companies and those that are paid to prevent them from getting away with it. The last 15 years of my pets lives and my own life have been miserable because of their false advertising. In my opinion they owe ever pet that has ever used their product an apology and the money to get something that actually works. There is nothing in this world I want more than for my pets to be happy and feel good, I love my pets, and Frontline and Advantage have taken advantage of that for years.Its time for them to pay for their crimes.

      You can use shampoo with eucalyptus or neem oil in it. The company Pet Edge or Groomers Choice. They sell to the public. you can find eucalyptus shampoo or neem oil shampoo that is safe for dogs and some for cats and you can find sprays for your home with eucalyptus or neem oil especially eucalyptus it’s much safer than the pesticides they use

      1. josiah says:

        Do NOT EVER suggest eucalyptus or other oils EVER again. Oils cannot be broken down by thier liver and like the other treatments will cause death.

  5. Daniel M Higgins says:

    Our two previous dogs ended up with cancerous tumors leading us to have them put down after using both Frontline and Advantix products. We had to put the female down in 2016 and the male in 2017. I will be glad to go into further detail if I get a response back.
    To say the least they were our children, we now have three other dogs, the oldest one, before realizing the flea and tick drips were the culprit. We ended up using frontline on the older one we have now briefly then she started to have seizures. We stopped using it and she now seems to be alright going forward. These big pharma corps must stop selling these products and pay for what they have done to probably millions of domestic animals and their owners.

  6. Linda Pandino says:

    I want to be added. I applied advantage to my cat and a few hours later she started having seizures. Fortunately, I was home. She spent 1/2 of the next day at the vet. She never fully recovered. Eventually her back legs started to gave out. It was time to say good bye.
    I have a case number given me by the company when I was on the phone with them at 2:30 in the morning.

  7. Robert Steele says:

    I would also like to be added to a lawsuit. I put Seresto collars on my two cats in mid-October 2020. Both cats were dead by the first week of March 2021. My youngest suffered incredibly before I decided to have him put down to spare him more pain. He had trouble walking (he circled to the right), he had chronic diarrhea, a high fever, and he quit eating. My Vet said he suspected my cat had neurological problems.

    1. Cindy says:

      So Sorry for your loss company’s need to be held responsible. If you still have any pets that are still sick. Get a really good Prebiotic and probiotic for them from a veterinarian, also find a high quality dog and cat food.

  8. Aimee Forgey says:

    I would like to be added to the class action lawsuit… I lost 3 cats within a month due to these collars, I have one cat and dog left and since I took the collars off they are less sick but it’s ridiculous these products are still selling. They need to take all the brands that fall under Seresto OUT OF THE STORES. It really sucks that we lost 3 of our therapy animals and the trauma is comparable to losing a person in my opinion.
