Farmers Insurance has announced a significant data breach affecting more than 1.1 million customers due to unauthorized access to a third-party vendor’s database.
The breach was detected on May 30, when a third-party vendor informed Farmers of suspicious activity. This activity was traced back to May 29, when an unauthorized actor accessed the vendor’s database containing Farmers’ customer information.
The vendor’s monitoring tools quickly identified the intrusion, allowing for immediate containment measures. Farmers launched a comprehensive investigation and notified law enforcement authorities to assess the breach’s scope.
The investigation revealed that personal information, including names, addresses, dates of birth and driver’s license numbers, was accessed. In some cases, the last four digits of Social Security numbers were also compromised.
Farmers data breach part of a series of Salesforce-linked attacks
Farmers has confirmed that the breach is part of a broader wave of cyberattacks stemming from a Salesforce data breach that has affected major companies this year.
These attacks typically involve voice phishing, where employees are tricked into approving malicious applications linked to their company’s Salesforce activities. Once connected, attackers siphon customer relationship management databases for extortion attempts.
The cybercrime group ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for these attacks, which have also impacted companies like Google, Cisco and Allianz Life.
Farmers Insurance has taken several steps to address the breach. The company is offering affected customers 24 months of free identity-monitoring services to detect potential misuse of their personal information.
Affected customers should sign up at www.mytrueidentity.com before Nov. 25, 2025.
Additionally, Farmers is enhancing its security technologies and processes to prevent future incidents. The company has also reviewed its integrations with the third-party vendor to ensure compliance with required security protocols.
For more information about the breach, customers can contact Farmers Insurance toll-free at 1-833-426-6809, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
Farmers Insurance says it has not received any reports of identity theft or misuse related to the breach so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the incident, but a class action lawsuit is already underway against Salesforce accusing the company of failing to adequately secure its servers and systems, thus jeopardizing the security of consumers’ personal information.
