Fire pit safety alert and recall details
Multiple brands of alcohol-fueled tabletop fire pits have come under scrutiny after numerous reports of severe burns and fire hazards. These products, including Colsen fire pits and FLIKRFIRE tabletop fireplaces, can produce invisible flames or experience fuel spills that ignite unexpectedly.
Consumers have reported incidents ranging from minor burns to life-threatening injuries, and in some cases, fatal accidents.
Because of these risks, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an official recall for Colsen fire pits and a strong safety warning for FLIKRFIRE products.
Colsen fire pits recall
In October 2024, Colsen recalled over 89,000 tabletop fire pits following reports of flash fires.
The fire pit recall included 31 incident reports, 19 of which involved burn injuries. Two individuals suffered third-degree burns covering more than 40% of their bodies, requiring extensive hospitalization and medical treatment.
FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplace safety alert
In December 2024, the CPSC issued a consumer safety warning for FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplaces, urging users to stop using these products immediately.
Reports included incidents of flame jetting, spilled fuel igniting and severe burns. Three reports involved third- or fourth-degree burns, and one incident tragically resulted in the deaths of an elderly couple.
While FLIKRFIRE products were not officially recalled, the CPSC strongly advised consumers to discontinue use due to the serious safety risks.
