Loren D. Stark data breach: overview:
According to a data breach notice filed with the Attorney General of Vermont, Loren D. Stark Company, a retirement plan consulting firm, was the victim of a cyberattack on Oct. 18, 2022. During the breach, hackers reportedly gained access to sensitive consumer data including full names and Social Security numbers. Loren D. Stark determined which consumer information was compromised through a forensic investigation that concluded on June 16, 2023. Despite confirming this information in June, Loren D. Stark did not inform consumers of the data breach until August.
Loren D. Stark offered affected individuals access to 12 or 24 months of credit monitoring and identity protection services through Equifax Credit Watch Gold. This service includes daily access to Equifax credit reports, notifications of report changes, WebScan notifications, fraud alerts, identity restoration services and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Cyberattacks, like the Loren D. Stark data breach, which affect Social Security numbers are dangerous for consumers because this information can easily by used by cyber criminals for fraud and identity theft. This risk can follow data breach victims for years or even decades. Although consumers can find some relief from credit monitoring and identity protection services such as those offered by Loren D. Stark, individuals impacted by cyberattacks may wish to take further action.
Why file a data breach class action lawsuit?
Following a data breach, consumers may be able to seek compensation through relief programs from targeted companies, identity theft insurance, bank reimbursements and more. A data breach class action lawsuit can be an effective way to recover compensation when other measures have been exhausted.
Consumers in a data breach class action lawsuit can seek compensation for a range of damages, including:
- Unreimbursed, fraudulent charges
- Identity theft damages
- Lost time
- Professional fees
- Communication charges (postage, phone bills, etc.)
- Bank fees (overdraft fees, NSF fees, etc.)
