Did you unknowingly pay for “shipping insurance” or “package protection” fees that were automatically added at checkout? If so, you may qualify to join a class action lawsuit over unexpected charges. Fill out the form on this page to learn more.

More and more online shoppers are finding unexpected charges on their receipts— shipping fees labeled as “shipping insurance” or “package protection” that they never knowingly agreed to. These charges are often quietly slipped in during the checkout process.

In many cases, the fees are automatically applied without clear disclosure or an obvious way to opt out, leaving consumers paying extra for a service they did not request or want. If this has happened to you, you may be eligible to join a class action lawsuit and seek compensation for unauthorized charges.

Do you qualify?

What is shipping insurance?

In the world of online shopping, numerous retailers partner with third-party companies, such as Route, EcoCart and Corso, to offer what’s known as shipping insurance.

This service, often referred to as package or shipping protection, is not a traditional insurance policy. Instead, it acts as a safeguard against common shipping issues, such as lost, stolen, damaged or delayed packages. The goal is to give both consumers and retailers added peace of mind in case something goes wrong after an order is shipped.

Although shipping insurance can be helpful in certain situations, problems arise when these fees are added without clear consent or when shoppers do not realize they are paying extra for a service they did not request.

How shoppers get misled by automatic shipping protection fees

While many online retailers offer shipping insurance or package protection, some are adding these fees in a way that catches shoppers off guard. Rather than clearly asking whether a customer wants the added protection, the charge may be preselected by default or quietly inserted during checkout.

In some cases, these shipping fees are automatically applied, even on orders that advertise “free shipping,” creating a misleading experience for consumers.

To make matters worse, the option to remove the charge is often hard to find, buried in small print or not available at all.

As a result, some shoppers complete their purchases unaware they have paid extra for a service they never knowingly agreed to. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and you may have grounds to seek reimbursement or compensation.

How to join a class action lawsuit for unauthorized shipping fees

The first step any savvy shopper should take is to review their receipts, order confirmations and shipping emails from recent online purchases. It is possible that these automatic shipping protection fees have gone unnoticed.

If you notice charges labeled as “shipping protection,” “package protection,” or “shipping insurance ”— especially if you did not opt in — you may have been billed without proper consent.

If this has happened to you, you may be eligible to join a class action lawsuit seeking compensation for deceptive or unauthorized charges. You are encouraged to fill out the form on this page to receive a free case review and find out if your experience qualifies.
