In October 2023, eight men came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the former Chief Executive Officer of Abercrombie and Fitch, Mike Jeffries, as well as two other individuals, Matthew Smith and James Jacobson. A year has now passed, and all three men have been arrested and formally charged with sex trafficking and additional criminal offenses. While this development does not guarantee justice for those affected, it can be viewed as a step in the right direction.
While the prosecution in the criminal matter works diligently to prove their case and obtain a guilty verdict, the civil courts provide another avenue for possible remedy and restitution for those who were coerced into prostitution. If you or someone you know was harmed due to the actions of Mike Jeffries, Matthew Smith or James Jacobson, you may be eligible to take part in a class action lawsuit.

Former Abercrombie and Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries accused of sex trafficking
Mike Jeffries, the former CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch, has been arrested in connection with a federal investigation into sex trafficking and interstate prostitution. His long-time romantic partner, Matthew Smith, and middleman James Jacobson, face similar charges.
Prosecutors claim that from 2008 to 2015, Jeffries and Smith built a secretive infrastructure to organize “sex events,” which involved transporting and coercing victims into prostitution. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York stated that the accused exploited their power and wealth to traffic men for sex. Authorities are encouraging other victims to come forward, as investigations continue.
Young men allegedly coerced into prostitution by Mike Jeffries
According to the indictment, Mike Jeffries and Matthew Smith employed James Jacobson to recruit young men under false pretenses. The men were reportedly promised opportunities in modeling if they participated in events that involved sexual acts with Jeffries, Smith, Jacobson and other individuals.
The indictment further claims that the young men were then transported to various international locations where they engaged in coerced commercial sex work. In addition to offering prospective modeling roles with the Abercrombie and Fitch brand, the defendants also allegedly suggested to the men that failing to comply would negatively impact their career prospects. The defendants allegedly used a security team to enforce non-disclosure agreements, preventing victims from seeking help.
