Remote work report overview: 

  • Who: Buffer, Remote OK and Nomad List have released their 2023 State of Remote Work report. 
  • Why: The sixth-annual report highlighted the experiences of 3,000 remote workers from around the world and revealed that 98% would like to continue working remotely at least part time.
  • Where: The report included respondents from around the world.

Ninety-eight percent of respondents in the recently released 2023 State of Remote Work report said they would like to work remotely at least part time. 

The sixth annual report on the state of remote work, which was conducted by Buffer, Remote OK and Nomad List, highlighted the experiences of 3,000 remote workers from around the globe. 

Individuals who work remotely either full or part time, independent consultants, employees and business owners were included in the report, which looked into how remote work is perceived and the benefits and struggles it presents. 

The report also shared insights into what a remote worker could expect in terms of pay and career growth, and what a typical work structure looks like for a remote worker and their employer.

In addition to 98% of respondents saying they would want to work remotely at least part time in the future, 98% said they would also recommend remote work to others, while 91% said they have had a positive experience with working remotely. 

Only 1% of respondents in the 2023 State of Remote Work report said they have had a negative experience

Only 1% of respondents said they have had a negative experience with working remotely, while 8% responded they were neutral about their experience with remote employment, according to Buffer. 

The biggest benefit to working remotely, according to 22% of respondents, was flexibility with how they are able to spend their time.

An additional 19% of respondents said flexibility of being able to choose where to live was the biggest benefit, while a total of 13% of respondents said the biggest benefit was the flexibility of being able to choose where to work. 

In terms of struggles, 1 out of 3 respondents said their biggest issue is they end up staying at home more often than they would like because they no longer have a reason to venture out, according to the report. 

The second-largest struggle, according to respondents, was loneliness, with 23% selecting it as their biggest issue. 

Last year, Germany, the U.S. and Denmark were ranked as the top three countries in the world for remote work by NordLayer in its Global Remote Work Index.
