Pfizer Inc. has agreed to a $1 million settlement to end claims that it practiced pay discrimination against female employees in Pfizer’s affirmative action program.
The settlement came after allegations from the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.
The Pfizer DOL settlement includes $1.262 million in back pay and $738,000 in interest that will be distributed between the eligible employees.
“Pfizer agrees that it will not retaliate against any potential or actual beneficiary of this agreement or against any person who files a complaint, who has provided information or assistance, or who participates in any manner in any proceeding in this matter,” the Pfizer DOL conciliation agreement says.
In addition, Pfizer has agreed to conduct an analysis of pay for all of the jobs within the job titles identified in the agreement and set aside at least $500,000 in reserves to pay for a pair of required analysis of pay.
“If the pay adjustments for any analysis are less than $250,000, Pfizer will use the differential between the pay adjustments for that analysis and the $250,000 to fund gender inclusion and diversity efforts and programs at Pfizer,” the Pfizer DOL settlement says.
Pfizer must certify it completed in-depth analysis on employment practices related to pay
Pfizer agreed to creating several reports to ensure equal pay for Pfizer female employees, including providing the DOL with a report within 40 days of the agreement showing it evaluated whether its “promotion decisions, performance evaluation ratings, procedures for assigning work, the availability of training opportunities, bonus determinations, starting salaries, leave policies, steering, and/or distribution of transfer opportunities” have a negative effect on pay for female employees with the specific job titles identified in the agreement.
Pfizer recalled about 4.2 million Nurtec ODT prescription drugs earlier this year as the products do not meet the child-resistant packaging requirement, posing a risk of poisoning children.
