FleetPride agreed to a $72,250 settlement to resolve claims it scanned Illinois employees’ hands and fingerprints without first getting consent, a violation of the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).

The settlement benefits FleetPride employees in Illinois whose finger or hand was scanned by a timekeeping system between Dec. 31, 2015, and Dec. 31, 2020, without first signing a consent form.

According to FleetPride workers, they were required to scan their hands and fingers for timekeeping purposes. Because FleetPride failed to get employee consent, it allegedly violated BIPA.

FleetPride is a parts and repair company that offers service to heavy-duty trucking fleets around the country.

FleetPride hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $72,250 class action settlement to resolve the BIPA allegations.

Under the terms of the FleetPride settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund.

Although exact payments will vary depending on the number of participating class members, each worker is estimated to receive around $352.75.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 15, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the FleetPride BIPA settlement is scheduled for June 15, 2023.

No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive a settlement payment.
