man taking u-dream life sleeping pillsA class action lawsuit filed in Canada alleges that “U-Dream Life” sleep-aids led to a British Columbia trucker’s heart attack.

Lead plaintiff James Ruckman says in the U-Dream Life sleep aid class action lawsuit that he bought the herbal supplement at a Whole Foods store in B.C. in September 2019.

The plaintiff claims he took the supplement for 10 days after he purchased it. On Sept. 30, Ruckman alleges that he had a heart attack.

The heart attack left him in the hospital for 12 days, says the plaintiff. During that time, he allegedly lost both his job as a truck driver and his license.

U-Dream Life sleep-aid is allegedly manufactured by Biotrade. It was sold over-the-counter in both the U.S. and Canada. However, health agencies in both countries have recently issued warnings about a hidden ingredient in the so-called dietary supplement.

Health Canada issued a warning about U-Dream herbal sleep-aid and similar products on Dec. 12, 2019.

“Health Canada is advising Canadians that it has tested several U-Dream Lite and U-Dream Full Night herbal sleep-aid products and has found that they contain a substance similar to the prescription drug zopiclone, which may pose serious health risks,” says the health agency’s statement.

The statement further notes that, while zopiclone is used to treat insomnia, it carries side effects, including “drowsiness, dizziness, memory loss, hallucinations and abnormal sleep behaviours while not fully awake including sleep driving.”

The agency also states that users can become dependent on the substance and, if they abruptly stop taking zopiclone, they may suffer severe effects, including convulsions, tremor, muscle cramps, vomiting, sweating, hallucinations and difficulty sleeping.

Health Canada indicates in its statement that it made the manufacture and sale of U-Dream Life sleep-aid products illegal by suspending the products’ licenses. The agency notes that reports of other side effects may indicate that other ingredients are included in the product.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a similar warning over U-Dream Full Night. The agency issued a notification on Dec. 18, 2019 warning the public that the product contains a hidden ingredient structurally similar to a prescription medication called Lunesta with the active ingredient eszopiclone.

“Eszopiclone and zopiclone are known to cause impairment of driving and other activities that require alertness the next morning or next day after use. These ingredients may also cause dry mouth, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, memory loss, and abnormal thoughts and behavior,” warns the FDA.

The FDA statement also warns the public of a growing trend that may pose a hazard. Dietary supplements and even conventional foods, warns the agency, have been found laced with hidden chemicals.

Generally, these items are touted for weight loss, improved sex drive or performance, and bodybuilding. They are often advertised as “all natural.”

“FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients. Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing any product in the above categories.”

According to the U-Dream Life sleep-aid class action lawsuit, Biotrade has also warned consumers about its own product, advising them to discontinue use until the company conducts its own studies.

I am wondering if this u-dream lawsuit has been settled? I had terrible medical experiences with this product

  2. Evelyne Monroe says:

Please add me. I had a horrific experience with UDream addiction – which ended in an injury.

  3. Constantin says:

I’ve took this product for over two years since it came on the market. I found the news later that it’s been spiked with pharmaceutical sleep pills. From the start worked good without symptoms but as the time went on the first side effect was constipation that caused me hernia and I had to go for surgery. Now more than six months since I stopped taking it and I didnt get my sleep back as before taking it. I am so angry for the damage the spiked udream caused to my health and sleep that i definitely want to sue this udream criminals.

  4. Nancy says:

I took Udream nightly for 7 months. It was the only supplement which has been consistently effective. I had no side-effects while taking it and none when I stopped taking it but for the same sleep maintenance insomnia I had before.

By way of background, I had no sleep problems until menopause 25+ years ago. In this period I used a supplement containing phenibut, which lost effectiveness, which I discontinued slowly, and, rarely, Ativan which has always been effective. I tried Ambien once but had an episode of amnesia so never again.

I did find a supply of Udream which will last me quite a while and afterwards I am going to compound it myself. It appears quite possible to do this because the ingredients are available.

I do not doubt that some have had bad experiences with Udream but it gave me 7 months of good life after a quarter century of struggle.

  5. Lori says:

Add me to the class action law suit. I took it and thought it was herbal. Ended up sleep driving and got into an accident.

    1. Lori Antunovic says:

      I was sleep driving

  6. Peter says:

I took Udream lite for 2 years and never had any problems. It gave me the best nights sleep.
Wish Health Canada would reapprove it.

  7. Dana says:

Hello, I took UDream tlast December and ended up experiencing the onset and only occurrence of trigeminal neuralgia (TN). There are a few case (I found after some research) studies linking zopliclone to TN. After several trips to the emergency department and neurologists and stopping taking the product it went away and has yet to reappear. I had MRIs etc. with no abnormalities or causes for this one time occurrence of this incredibly painful and debilitating condition. I am convinced that the zolpliclone in this product caused this acute condition. Dana

    1. Peter says:

My doctor prescribed zopiclone and I never experienced TN .
I did find it made me drowsy the next day.
I had been taking Udream before and it never caused me a problem, just a good night’s sleep.

  8. L. Greg says:

I took U-Dream for months with very restful sleep and alertness on waking. When I didn’t take it I had NO ill effects.
It has not been proved to the public that there was zopiclone in this supplement. It was IMPLIED by regulators. Did pharmaceutical companies have something to do with removal? Hmmmm. Have to wonder.

  9. David Roth says:

I had a very traumatic experience with U-Dream.
This experience occurred over a seven month period
and until I was able to identify U-Dream as the cause
I suffered greatly during that period of time.

It started at the beginning of July 2018.
My girlfriend suffers from severe insomnia
and she turned to U-Dream as an occasional
treatment for her issue. I began to take it sometimes
because I found that I was too alert to her sleeping issue
and I was sleeping in a mobile home while I was renovating
my home and found it difficult to share the sleeping space together.
So when she came to visit it would help us sleep.
    And it worked great!
One night in early July 2018 we were having sex
and after I climaxed and we finished, we both soon
    visited the bathroom to urinate.
My partner was surprised because she had blood in her vagina
and wondered why her period was so early.
I then found that I could not urinate.
There was pain and it burned and soon
a few drops of blood came out.
I was really terrified and we stayed up the rest of the night until
I could go to the doctor.
I’ll spare you all the details about the numerous times
I was affected by this and how I found myself pushing blood clots
the size of small birds out of my urethra during uncountable
    times always following sexual intercourse.
Doctors all told me it was not serious and
was like a chronic nose bleed and would go away.
But it didn’t go away, it got worse.
I had numerous visits to the hospital for
scopes in my urethra, CAT scans, they even wanted to do
a biopsy of my prostrate to search for cancer.
I was haunted by this experience for months during
some very important and stressful times. It shut down my sex life.
It created huge stress in my relationship.
I was traumatized every time I got an erection because
blood clots would form in my bladder and block my urethra.
At one point I had to drive from Toronto back home to Vancouver Island
and I had terrible clotting experiences at least twice during the trip.
When I returned home I got so badly blocked
that I spent the night in my new shower screaming
because I could not pass the clots.
The next day I ended up in emergency
for twenty four hours with a catheter in me
in terrible pain as they removed a blood clot the size of a softball.
It was a horrible experience. They didn’t give me pain killers for the longest
time and so I was further traumatized and brought to tears with pain.
    When my urologist finally
saw me a few weeks after the hospital experience
he decided he wanted to do a biopsy
on my prostrate. This is when I started to do my own research.
Every doctor had asked me if I was on blood thinners, which I was not.
Over the seven months no one asked me if I was on any
herbal supplements, until I was hospitalized.
Then afterward, when I was visiting my urologist
he finally asked me if I was on any herbal supplements
and I told him about U-Dream. In the back of my mind I always wondered but
I was far too busy and had let the doctors handle the issue for me.
But when this doctor mentioned blood thinners and then herbal remedies I became focused on that.
He had said it could have thinned my blood and it turns out that it has those properties to do that.
My prostate cancer blood test had been negative and so had all the other tests
so I approached my own doctor with research I had on the U-Dream contents
and he turned out to be very interested. The reason for this was that he told me “half his patients were on the stuff.”

Empowered with more knowledge I canceled the biopsy and decided to quit the U-Dream completely and then remain celibate for three months to allow any broken blood vessels near my prostate to completely heal.

It was a grueling three months and even though I thought I had identified the issue
I was still terrified that I might be wrong and then go on to be traumatized further.
Because the bleeding only occurred when I got an erection I was able to function
without bleeding if I completely avoided getting an erection. Which was an excruciatingly
difficult task in itself and severely anxiety inducing.

I am relieved to announce that my diagnosis ended up being completely correct
    and it was the U-Dream.

After three months celebrate and fully off U-Dream my partner and I took the risk and made love on the last day of January 2019. After intercourse, when I later went to the bathroom to urinate, you would not have believed the relief I felt when I found I was no longer afflicted. I had not passed blood in my ejaculate nor in my urine.

I was so relieved that I returned to bed and literally cried in my lover’s arms.

It was an incredibly difficult and traumatic experience for myself and my partner and my family.

It was seven months of my life during a very demanding time.

A few moths after I healed myself I saw the headlines about U-Dream
and watched it removed from all the stores in Canada

And that’s why I’m here telling you my story.

    1. Keith Gracey says:

I used this product from the day it was on the market. I used it additional on overseas trips It replaced any prescription drugs I used to take when traveling. It worked better than melatonin. From the founder of major cbd brands I prefer this over any OTC brands. As disappointing as someone had a reaction while taking this I sure if you take a deep medical dive you will find there heart issues where from other issues. Until anyone sees evidence that it was to the contrary than how can we say it’s not accurate in its ingredients. This is typical of our cancel culture.

  10. John Weyermars says:

Just stopped taking UDream 3 nights ago and can’t believe how bad I feel. Heart racing, sweats and irritability. Might be because I haven’t slept since.
A friend recommended it and I had great results for e year until I ran out and stupidly kept getting more. It was my only option, I wasn’t going to use pharma with all the side-effects.
After reading about the issues awhile back and hearing the company claiming there was potential problems in the supply chain, I couldn’t help but cry foul.
All natural ingredients shipments are not going to have an accidental addition/contamination of zopiclone or any similar drug. I’m disappointed in the company, their handling of the issues and staffs mis-handling of the post production problems.
Never an offer of support, alternative products or treatment for the issues their product caused. Another sad example of profit over people.
