Samsung Washer Recall Issued over Apparent DefectsSamsung washing machines have been linked with defects that may affect their ability to function. A Samsung washer recall was issued over some defects, but others are reportedly not being adequately addressed. Consumers have reported premature rusting in as little as a few months after purchase—despite the fact that Samsung markets its washing machines as resistant to rust, chipping, and damage.

Samsung Washer Recall

A voluntary Samsung washer recall was issued by the manufacturer in November 2017 over reports of major defects. Consumers reported a slew of defects associated with their washers, including washer drums losing balance, which caused excessive vibrations and led to the top of the washer separating from the machine’s body. This problem could occur at the high-speed cycle when used for bedding or bulky or water-resistant items.

Products affected by this Samsung washer recall are top load washers manufactured between March 2011 and October 2016.

The Samsung washer recall was voluntary, and done in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC). Consumers who have a product affected by the Samsung washer recall can choose a free in-home repair option that offers reinforcement to the washer, as well as a one-year warranty extension. The second option is a rebate to be used toward the purchase of an entirely new washer, which also includes installation and removal fees.

Rust Issues Could Ruin Machine, Clothes

Consumers have reported other issues with their top loading Samsung washers, including a major rust issue. According to consumer reports, Samsung top loading washing machines can rust in the washer drum within a year of purchase. Rust in a washing machine isn’t just gross; it can also affect the machine’s ability to function. Samsung reportedly markets these washing machines as being “gentler on clothes,” as well as resistant to rust, chipping, and damage.

Even though the company issued a Samsung washer recall over the vibration issue, some consumers claim that their reports of other defects (like rust) are not being adequately addressed. Indeed, consumers claim that Samsung has refused to acknowledge the rust problem and will not fix the issue.

Filing a Samsung Washer Lawsuit

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung over the washing machine rust defect, causing premature failure.

The plaintiff is a Samsung customer who purchased a top load washing machine back in 2013, and who alleges she found rust on the machine just one year after purchase. A few years later, in 2017, she says the machine had become so rusted it could no longer function as a washing machine at all—that is, cleaning clothes.

When she asked Samsung technicians for help, they reportedly told her that rust was a “cosmetic” issue, even though it caused the machine to stop functioning properly. Not only did this rust problem affect the machine itself, but has also damaged her clothing, and has incurred additional costs as she now has to wash her laundry elsewhere.

If your Samsung washing machine has rusted, affecting the product’s ability to perform as it should, you may be able to pursue litigation. Joining a Samsung washing machine rust class action lawsuit could help to provide compensation to cover the cost of the washing machine, repairs, replacement, and more.

Purchased washer in 2018 started to notice rust about a year later. The rust started getting bigger and this year started chipping off into the drum. I contacted Samsung to assist and was given the runaround. Sent pictures of the damage and the representative then asked for my purchase receipt from 2018. I provided all the information I have, model #, serial # photos etc but was told without the receipt they can help me. Disgraceful
