Toyota airbags recall overview:

  • Who: Toyota recalled more than 110,000 Corolla, Highlander, Tacoma and Lexus vehicles.
  • Why: The airbag can deactivate, resulting in lack of deployment during a crash.
  • Where: The Toyota airbags recall is active in the United States.
  • What are my options: CarShield provides vehicle protection plans for Toyota and other vehicles.

Toyota recalled more than 110,000 Corolla, Highlander, Tacoma and Lexus vehicles as the airbags in the recalled vehicles candeactivate, preventing them from deploying in the event of a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website published the recall July 12. It applies to a potential 110,047 vehicles. The recall includes certain 2023 Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, Lexus RX350, RX350 Hybrid, RX500 Hybrid, 2023-2024 Lexus NX250, NX350 and NX350 Hybrid vehicles.

According to the Toyota airbags recall, an electrical connection inside the steering column’s spiral cable assembly in the vehicles may be insufficiently welded, causing the connection to separate and deactivate the driver’s airbag.

“A deactivated driver’s airbag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury during a crash,” the recall states.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Parts to be replaced for free, Toyota airbags recall states

Toyota will notify all known owners of the involved vehicles and ask them to return their vehicles to a Toyota or Lexus dealer, the recall states. Dealers will inspect the spiral cable assembly production date and replace the part if necessary at no cost to owners.

The automaker expects to mail owner notification letters Aug. 27, 2023.

Toyota is no stranger to recalls and lawsuits. In April, a consumer hit the automaker with a class action lawsuit alleging it manufactured and sold model year 2019-2021 Toyota RAV4 vehicles equipped with defective roof rails that can ultimately render them inoperable.

Debbie Garrison, If the engine light is ‘yellow’ it may not be a problem. A yellow light can come on because the gas cap is not on tight after you put gasoline in the tan. Just take off and put it on again.
Also. it could be a dirty air filter. You can repalce the air filter yourself because it is that easy.
Another reason may be the engine is a liuttle dirty; drive it on the free way for fifty miles (I did, and drove another 20 miles before it wenr off.

Here’s the kicker. My engine light was on (yellow) and as I was driving it went off, just before I came to a Smog Station. I pulled right in and passed my Smog Test. When I left the Smog Station and turned right on to the highway, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN.

    Happy Trails t you (:0

I took my 2007 Toyota in for airbag recall a couple of years ago, and when they finished with my car, the engine light was on. Which it wasn’t on when I brought it in. I went back in to ask about it the light, they told me they would have to charge me to look at it. So now with the engine light on I can’t past the omission test. So now I can’t get my license plates. There was no engine light on. I want my car back.

A year ago I went in with brakes needing repair with my own parts. I had went prior to that because my brake light was on and they also told me they would have to charge me for that then the next time I spoke of earlier I went in and they checked it and told me that I needed the parts that I purchased and I took for my appointment to get fixed they have a guarantee if you buy Toyota parts you’re guaranteed for the workmanship well, I was waiting and the guy at Joplin Toyota in Missouri, that is right by the entrance door on the right side was extremely rude coming out with my part that had brake fluid all over it I had just paid like $700 and something dollars and never noticed the part being broke. He told me they would use their part well I ended up having to use their part and the other part that I purchased from Toyota that I turned in was rejected for a refund I still have the box it was from Toyota manchetta I believe. Well I had no choice they quoted me the price that part actually was previously it was doubled. I went to check out and I got a $45 coupon off of their website for work over $200 and I was denied use of that coupon that was on their website and I have it recorded the man I believe it was Mike said we’ve already gave you all the discounts we can they never give me any discounts. Now to the even worse part I drive out of the parking lot the lights were all off I get not even three blocks and the lights came back on I called and it was closing time and told them, then they said once you leave the lot it’s not our problem it’s not anything defective we did well I just paid 2000 over $2,000 to get my car done on a disability check I get $1,200 a month. Plus was refused using the coupon. I was crying and they refused to look at it unless like you said you pay for the whole Services over again and that guy told me that I had never been in there previously to even talk about the brakes but I have the proof and paperwork I have the recording of him denying me the right to use a coupon that was on the website. Then skipping to December last year. Prior to December last year I had had no one or hit no one in my life. I was standing still at a light across from Casey’s and Carthage Missouri and the light had just turned green well right foot head ed for the gas and I was hit full force no brakes applied by the other person that hit me and no airbags went off at all. The cops told me sometimes airbags just don’t go off well I was hit at probably 70 or 80 miles per hour from the impact of me sitting still and the lady not applying brakes and through something before the cops they’re out of her hand they denied anything but both my son and I seen it. It caused severe injury to me I have a disease called crps/rsd formerly it’s called the suicide disease because the pain is so relentless and endless. Before I got home the day my brakes were supposed to have been fixed there’s a small hill to a stoplight going up well on that Hill I attempted to apply the brakes and they just made a squishy sound and I almost rear ended someone going uphill. But to the other accident that was not my fault I wasn’t even in the car but it was 2 weeks after the first car Collision. My grandson and I was standing at a park where there wasn’t a parking lot and parked on the side of the road legally, and the person that lived across the street had a huge monster truck with a huge Square well did on his truck and he backed straight up into my front left driver side panel and crushed it completely up. The airbags didn’t go off either but me and my grandson were not there in the car. Progressive was the people’s insurance and they did not just like I’ve heard from other people that are interested in a class action lawsuit fulfill their deed to repair my car. The people in just for County are all working together and they have discriminated against me since 2001 when I was injured at their Jail from being poisoned by foodborne waterborne bacteria. I still have the right to sue because it was 2018 when I asked for hospital records after being poisoned and it showed the ambulance picking me up from the jail it showed lots of injuries that I did not know of. I had both my feet crushed and Shackled to the bed with my legs apart and my arms were Shackled above my head for 2 days. Well the hospital never told me that I had been poisoned but they had put my feet in traction both of them to keep pressure off and the clips they used gave out and dropped them and my heels were crushed and it made them deformed I had to get surgery and part most all of my right heel was removed. There are other problem the hospital cost was they hit my feet because they were in shackles going around the corners on the corner. They changed the day and tried to cover everything up but I have evidence even some of the x-rays but I was never told by the hospital I was poisoned but after 2 days Jasper County Carthage Jail release me on my own recognizance, and later in the records I was able to get before they were changed and destroyed showed that it said a bail bonds service got me out and my mom came and pick me up and she seen me sign my own recognance release because they poison me I imagine. In 2018 when I was looking at my records I seen I was poisoned with some type of bacteria and I also found out that I was given the medication that wasn’t meant for me. Just the other day Mercy Hospital they said they destroyed them even though I have an ongoing workers comp litigation going on that ask for my records which were already supposed to be saved because there was litigation problems the hospital and the jail Medicaid in Missouri and Medicare United Healthcare dual complete are owed money I have records showing documenting it. Also pictures with my feet and handcuffs with my feet being crushed. So I’m filing a HIPAA complaint and I told them they cannot destroy them and they haven’t replied back. Anyway I guess I better close but I wanted to back up the Toyota airbags not working after years ago when there was a recall on the airbags I took it in and it was completed in Springfield Toyota. Also there was a recall on the software where I had to go in and get it completed, and my car still in and at certain times will not stop or stops for no reason in the middle of traffic while driving. I know this is long hope this can get Missouri involved on the airbag situation since it didn’t go off two times.
