Drunk Elephant issues product recall due to ingredient mix-up
Luxury skincare brand Drunk Elephant announced a voluntary recall for specific lots of its products due to an ingredient mix-up during production.Â
The recall includes batches of Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, Protini Polypeptide Cream and Lala Retro Whipped Cream, as well as sample packets of Lala found inside O-Bloos Rosi Drops cartons. According to the company, the mix-up compromised the formulation of the affected products, potentially posing risks to users.
The recall highlights several issues. Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser contains an unlisted preservative called Microkill COS, which may trigger temporary skin reactions in sensitive users. Lala Retro Whipped Cream includes an unlisted surfactant called Mirataine CBS and lacks preservatives that allow for microbial growth, with some samples containing the yeast candida parapsilosis. Similarly, Protini Polypeptide Cream contains Mirataine CBS and lacks preservatives, with some lots contaminated by bacteria from the klebsiella and enterobacter genera.Â
Customers should stop using these products immediately, the recall notice states. Drunk Elephant is offering full refunds or replacements for the affected products.
Recall announced for Great Value bakery due to potential plastic contamination
The JM Smucker Co. issued a voluntary recall of 2,027 cases of Great Value Cheese Danish and 1,602 cases of Great Value Cinnamon Rolls due to potential plastic contamination.Â
The Food & Drug Administration classified the recall as a Class II recall, signifying a slight chance of serious health risks if the affected products are consumed.Â
The recall applies to Great Value Cheese Danish (16.5 ounces, UPC 078742201177) and Great Value Cinnamon Rolls (16.5 ounces, UPC 078742201160), both sold in cases of 12 retail units.Â
GM initiates recall for Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana
General Motors recalled approximately 77,824 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles from the 2022-2023 model years due to a transmission software issue that could increase the risk of a crash.Â
The recall identifies a problem in the transmission control module software, which may cause harsh shifting, reduced power, unintended deceleration, rear-wheel lockup or movement in an unintended direction, all of which pose safety risks.
To address the issue, GM dealers will provide a free update to the transmission control module software. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting Dec. 23.Â
Tesla announces 6th Cybertruck recall
Tesla issued its sixth recall for the 2024 Cybertruck since deliveries began in November 2023.
This latest recall affects more than 2,400 vehicles produced between Nov. 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, which are equipped with metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors in their drive inverters. According to Tesla, a defect in the drive inverter could result in a loss of torque, preventing drivers from accelerating and causing a complete loss of propulsion.Â
To address the problem, Tesla says it plans to replace the faulty drive inverters free of charge and will begin notifying affected owners by mail on Jan. 4, 2025.Â
For further information, owners can contact Tesla at 877-798-3752 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236. This recall follows another in October 2024 involving more than 27,000 Cybertruck vehicles due to concerns that their rearview cameras might fail to display an image promptly when reversing.
Recall issued for Whole Foods carrots, celery due to potential E. coli contamination
F&S Fresh Foods issued a recall of Whole Foods Market 15-ounce organic carrot sticks and 15-ounce organic carrots and celery due to potential contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O121:H19.Â
The recall applies to products packaged in plastic clamshells with best-by dates between Sept. 1-Oct. 19, 2024, which may still be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers should not consume these products and discard them immediately, the recall notice states. This recall, announced on Nov. 21 on the FDA website, impacts Whole Foods locations in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho and Nevada.
The recall is part of a broader effort after Grimmway Farms, a supplier to F&S Fresh Foods, issued a nationwide recall of whole organic carrots linked to a fatal outbreak of E. coli infections.Â
As of Nov. 17, the FDA reported 39 illnesses, 15 hospitalizations and one death related to the outbreak. While no illnesses have been reported specifically from the recalled Whole Foods products, E. coli O121:H19 can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, the recall notice states. The FDA and other food safety organizations continue to investigate the outbreak.
