Atomi Smart recalls heaters due to fire hazard risks

Atomi issued a recall for over 100,000 smart heaters across the United States and Canada due to a potential safety hazard. The recall was announced on July 11 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and affects several models of Atomi Smart Heaters. Those models include tower models AT1323, AT1481, AT1520, and AT1632; tabletop models AT1482 and AT1521; and wall heater model AT1635. The recall stems from reports that these heaters could unexpectedly turn on by themselves, creating risks of fire and burns.

Consumers who own any of the recalled models should immediately cease use, unplug the heaters and follow the provided online instructions to obtain a full refund. The recall requires owners to cut the power cord of their unplugged unit and submit photos of the cut cord along with the manufacturerโ€™s label for verification. Atomi has not reported any injuries related to the issue, but they are advising customers to act promptly to ensure safety.

Bissell announces recall for 3M+ Steam Shot cleaners

Bissell is recalling approximately 3.2 million Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners following over 150 reports of users experiencing minor burns. The recall was announced on July 18 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and affects model series 39N7 and 2994. These steam cleaners pose a burn hazard as they can unexpectedly expel hot water or steam during use. Consumers who own one of the affected models should stop using the steam cleaners immediately and contact Bissell to receive either a $60 credit or a $40 refund.ย

To facilitate the recall process, users must cut the cord of their steam cleaner and upload a photo showing both the cut cord and the model number. The affected steam cleaners were available for purchase from Aug. 2008 to May 2024 at retailers such as Target, Walmart, and various online stores for $35 to $40, or $70 for a two-pack. Additionally, Bissell is also recalling around 160,000 Multi Reach Hand and Floor Vacuum Cleaners due to fire risks associated with their lithium-ion batteries.

Hyundai issues recall for multiple models due to fuel pump defect

Hyundai Motor America announced a recall of over 50,000 vehicles due to potential fuel pump failures that could result in a loss of drive power. The recall affects specific model years and models, including the 2019-2022 Hyundai Veloster N, 2019-2023 Genesis G70, and 2022-2023 Elantra N and Kona N. The issue is with the high-pressure fuel pump assemblies. They can malfunction due to wear on the fuel control valve plunger, potentially causing excess fuel to enter the pump.ย

To address this safety concern, Hyundai will have dealers update the engine control module software. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump assemblies in the affected vehicles. Owners can expect to receive recall notification letters by Sept. 9, 2024. For further information, drivers can contact Hyundai at 1-855-371-9460 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.ย

Walmart, Kroger, others part of Listeria produce recall

An Ohio farm expanded a significant produce recall due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall, announced on July 22, affects various Wiers Farm vegetables, including green beans, cucumbers, and peppers which were packed between July 5 and 12 and distributed to retailers in 13 states. The affected products were supplied to major chains such as Walmart, Kroger and Aldi.ย

Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause listeriosis, poses a risk if consumed. Symptoms of listeriosis can range from fever and muscle aches to gastrointestinal issues and may last from days to weeks. While no illnesses or consumer complaints have been reported to date, the company advises anyone experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention. The produce involved in the recall, which is primarily sold in bags but also individually or by the pound, was distributed to retailers in states including Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, and Virginia.ย

Lundberg Wild Blend rice recall issued over rodent contamination

Wehah Farms issued a recall for Lundberg Family Farms-brand rice due to concerns about potential contamination from a foreign object linked to a rodent. The recall began on May 10. It affects 4,600 cases of Lundberg Family Farms Sustainable Wild Blend Gourmet Rice packaged in 1 lb poly bags with lot code 231004 and a best-by date of Oct. 4, 2024. The recalled rice was distributed across seven states: California, Oregon, Wisconsin, Maine, Florida, Arizona, and New Hampshire.

Consumers and retailers are advised to either discard the affected rice or return it to the place of purchase. In total, the recall involves 27,000 bags of the rice blend which includes black, brown, red, and wild rice. The Food and Drug Administration classified the recall as a Class II, indicating that while the risk of serious injury or death is low, the product could still cause adverse health effects.ย
