Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of July 1.

Ice cream products recalled due to potential listeria contamination

Totally Cool Inc. announced a recall of several ice cream brands due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes.

The company initiated the recall after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration detected the bacteria’s presence during routine sampling. As a precautionary measure, Totally Cool halted production of the affected ice cream products.

The recall affects ice cream sold under various brands, including Friendly’s, Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery, Hershey’s Ice Cream, Yelloh!, Jeni’s, Cumberland Farms, The Frozen Farmer, Marco, Taharka ChipWich, AMAFruits, Dolcezza Gelato and LaSalle.

Totally Cool distributed the products nationwide through retail outlets and direct delivery. Although consumers have not reported any illnesses, the company advises them to return the recalled items to the place of purchase for a full refund. Miniverse recall announced due to risk of skin, eye, respiratory irritation

MGA Entertainment issued a recall for approximately 21 million Miniverse Make It Mini Sets due to the presence of resins that can cause skin, eye and respiratory irritations.

The company announced the recall June 25 on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website; it affects around 21 million sets sold in the United States and about 1 million in Canada. The recall follows more than two dozen incident reports, including cases of skin burns, associated with the products, according to the notice.

The recalled products include Make It Mini Appliances, all models and series of Make It Mini Food and Make It Mini Lifestyle. These sets contain liquid resins with acrylates in amounts prohibited by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, posing risks of skin burns, respiratory irritation and sensitization, according to the recall notice. Consumers should stop using the sets immediately and contact MGA for a prepaid return label to receive a full refund or replacement.

Ford announces recall for 550,000+ F-150 vehicles

Ford issued a recall for more than half a million Ford F-150 vehicles nationwide due to a transmission issue that can cause the vehicles to suddenly shift into first gear.

The Ford recall affects 552,188 of the 2014 Ford F-150 models. The issue stems from a potential loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module, which can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into first gear regardless of vehicle speed, according to the recall notice.

This sudden downshifting can lead to a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash, the recall notice states. Drivers may notice the malfunction indicator light turning on if they experience the issue. While the signal may recover during driving in some cases, others may require the vehicle to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission function.

Ford says it will address the issue at no cost to owners by updating the powertrain control module software.

Tesla issues 4th recall for Cybertrucks

Tesla recalled more than 11,000 model year 2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles due to concerns that a cosmetic applique on the trunk bed rim may not have been properly installed. The recall affects 11,383 vehicles manufactured between Nov. 13, 2023, and May 26, 2024.

The issue involves the sail applique, which could loosen or detach from the vehicle, potentially creating a road hazard for other drivers, the recall notice states. If the applique separates from the vehicle while in drive, it could create a road hazard for following motorists and increase their risk of injury or a collision, the recall notice states.

This is the fourth recall for the Cybertruck since its debut last year. Tesla says it plans to fix the issue by replacing or reworking the sail applique at no cost to drivers to ensure proper adhesion and will notify owners Aug. 18, 2024.

Recall issued for salmon slices sold at Kroger, Pay Less

Foppen Seafood issued a recall for packaged smoked salmon slices sold at Kroger and Pay Less Supermarkets in 15 states due to potential listeria contamination.

The recall involves one lot of its Smoked Norwegian Salmon Slices – Toast-sized, 8.1-ounce. Routine testing revealed the presence of listeria monocytogenes in Lot 412 of the product, according to the recall notice.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, with symptoms ranging from fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea to more severe symptoms like headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Those particularly vulnerable include older adults, pregnant women, newborns and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Customers should check for “Lot 412” in the clear plastic window on the package and return any affected product to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement, the recall notice states.
