Sprouts Farmers Market has issued a recall of its Chicken Street Taco kits due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website on Oct. 24. It applies to select lots of Chicken Street Taco kits sold at Sprouts and supplied by Fresh Creative Foods.

According to the notice, the recall was initiated after the supplier, Fresh Creative Foods, notified Sprouts it was recalling the product due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The Sprouts recall applies to Chicken Street Taco Meal Kit with Universal Product Code 205916813991 and best by dates between 9/2/2024-11/7/2024. No illnesses have been reported to date in relation to the taco kits recall, the company said.

Listeria can sometimes cause fatal infections, recall says

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeriosis — the infection caused by Listeria — can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

“Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider,” the Sprouts recall says.

Customers who have purchased the recalled taco kits are urged not to consume them and to dispose of them or return the items to their local store for a full refund.

“The FDA recommends in these cases that anyone who purchased or received any recalled products to use extra vigilance in cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces and containers that may have come in contact with these products to reduce the risk of cross-contamination,” the agency said.

Recently, TreeHouse Foods Inc. recalled certain frozen waffle products sold under multiple brand names as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
