  • Where: The SimplyProtein Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bar recall is active in the United States.

Wellness Natural USA Inc. has recalled all lots of SimplyProtein® Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bars within expiration as the product may contain undeclared cashews.

The recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website on April 12. It applies to all SimplyProtein® Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bars with Best Before date between April 11, 2023 and March 14, 2024.

According to the notice, the recall was voluntarily initiated due to a consumer complaint, which is the only reported reaction to date, the company said.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashews run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” it said.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Return to Costco for a full refund

The SimplyProtein® Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bar is sold in a 15-count variety pack that contains two other flavors.

The recalled products were distributed in Costco stores nationwide in the United States.

“Costco stores in the United States who are in possession of the product are urged to stop sales and distribution immediately, contain and isolate the affected products, and contact Wellness Natural USA Inc. for verification and disposal instructions,” the recall states.

“Consumers who have purchased the impacted products and have a sensitivity to cashew should not consume the product and return them to Costco for a full refund.”

Meanwhile, a protein bar consumer is suing the maker of Think! protein bars, alleging the company misleads consumers into thinking the bars do not contain artificial sweeteners when they in fact contain maltitol syrup.
