  • Why: The sights contain a button cell battery that violates federal regulations.
  • Where: The Sig Sauer sight recall is active in the United States.

Sig Sauer has recalled about 230,000 red dot sights because they contain a button cell battery that violates federal regulations.

The recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on Jan. 8. It applies to Sig Sauer ROMEO5 Red Dot Sights, Model SOR52001 and part 7400579.

According to the recall, the firearm sights contain a button cell battery that violates the mandatory federal regulations for consumer products containing button cell batteries.

This is because the button cell batteries can be easily accessed, posing an ingestion hazard, the recall says.

“When button cell batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns and death, posing an ingestion hazard to children,” it says.

Sig Sauer has not reported any injuries related to this recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in lawsuits.

Sig Sauer offers free replacement, recall states

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled firearm sights and contact Sig Sauer for instructions on how to submit a picture of the serial number to receive a free recall kit, the notice says. The kit includes a new cap with the required labeling and an updated instruction manual.

The recalled sights were sold at Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Academy Sports, Scheels and other stores and local independent firearms and equipment stores nationwide and online at Sigsauer.com, Amazon.com, Opticsplanet.com, EuroOptic.com, Palmettostatearmory.com, Midwayusa.com, Chattanoogashooting.com, Gritrsports.com, Bereli.com, Battlehawkarmory.com and other online optics websites between February 2023 and December 2024 for between $130 and $200, the recall says.

Meanwhile, in 2019, Federal Cartridge issued a Blackhawk gun holster recall as a firearm’s safety could unknowingly be switched off due to the design of the holster. allowing the gun to fire unexpectedly, potentially leading to severe injury or even death.
