Max Mobility/Permobil issued a recall for a wheelchair power assist device component over potential safety and performance concerns.
The wheelchair power assist device recall, which comes after hundreds of consumer complaints, involves Max Mobility/ Permobil’s Speed Control Dial component used with its SmartDrive MX2+ Power Assist Device.
Max Mobility/Permobil said it is concerned the issue could cause continued drive, involuntary movement, loss of power and a failure to start driving, issues it said could lead to minor and/or serious injuries.
The recalled devices were manufactured and distributed via authorized retailers from between Aug. 17, 2023, and Nov. 21, 2024, according to the recall.
Recall issued following hundreds of complaints, three reports of serious injury
Max Mobility/Permobil said it has received 646 complaints associated with the recalled power assist device component, as of Dec. 12, 2024, including three reports of serious injury.
The company said individuals who have purchased the recalled power assist device component will need to request replacement units using a QR code to access the “field action portal.”
