Jarritos is recalling more than 2 million cans of coconut water as they may not be sealed correctly.
The recall was published to the U.S Food & Drug Administration website Dec. 10.
It applies to 169,438 cases of Jarritos Coconut Water 17.5 fl oz cans. With 12 cans per carton, the total recall involves 2,033,256 cans of coconut water sold in 29 states.
According to the recall, the hermetic seal on the lid of the cans may be compromised.
Federal food safety watchdogs have classified the recall as Class II, meaning a situation in which use of a product may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
The products were distributed for sale in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Other beverage companies deal with recalls, lawsuits
The Jarritos coconut water was distributed by the company Novamex. The firm is not currently facing legal action, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes result in lawsuits.
Meanwhile, consumers recently filed class action lawsuits against beverage companies A Shoc Beverage LLC, VNGR Beverage LLC and Abbott Laboratories for alleged false advertising.
Several companies have also recently initiated and/or expanded recalls for a variety of apple juice products and Lactaid milk. while Health-Ade recently agreed to settle claims involving its kombucha products.
