  • Why: The gyro kits may contain cucumbers contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Where: The Sam’s Club recall is active in the United States.

Fresh Creative Foods has recalled gyro kits sold at Sam’s Club as the kits may contain cucumbers contaminated with Salmonella.

The gyro kit recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website on Dec. 6. It applies to Beef & Lamb Gyro Sandwich Express Meal Kits  with Universal Product Code 0-13454-38313-1 and a use by date of 12/24/2024 – 1/6/2025.

According to the notice, the Sam’s Club recall was prompted by a mass cucumber recall.

On Dec. 6, whole cucumbers sold by SunFed and other importers in 26 U.S. states and multiple Canadian provinces were recalled over concerns they may have been contaminated with salmonella.

“As a result, Fresh Creative Foods is voluntarily recalling one product that contains cucumbers in the tzatziki sauce included in the kit,” the recall says. It is no longer using cucumbers from its supplier, Baloian Farms of Arizona Co.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Consumers who bought the recalled gyro kits should not consume any part of the kits, the recall states.

“If you are uncertain about whether the product that you purchased is impacted, please discard it and visit any Sam’s Club for a full refund,” the gyro kit recall says.

The kits were distributed to Sam’s Club warehouses nationally.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced earlier this year that it was investigating a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers that sickened 449 people across 31 states, as of July 2, 2024.
