Perdue Foods is recalling about 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products that may be contaminated with metal.

The U.S. Department of Agricultureโ€™s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall Aug. 16.

The frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender items were produced on March 23.ย

According to the Perdue chicken recall, the problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints about metal wire embedded in the product, and notified FSIS of the issue.

There have been no confirmed reports of injuries due to consumption of the products so far, the recall states. The company is not currently facing a class action lawsuit, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in legal action.

The recall includes the below chicken breast products:

  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages labeled โ€œPERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETSโ€ with Best If Used By date of โ€œ03 23 25โ€ represented on the back of the package.
  • 29-oz. (1.81-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages labeled โ€œPERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS with Best If Used By date of โ€œ03 23 25โ€ represented on the back of the package.
  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed packages labeled โ€œBUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggetsโ€ with Best If Used By date of โ€œ03 23 25โ€ represented on the back of the package.

The recalled chicken breast products contain the establishment number โ€œP-33944โ€ on the back of the package.

Do not consume the chicken product

The recalled chicken breast products were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.

FSIS is concerned that some of the products may be in consumersโ€™ freezers, it said.ย

โ€œConsumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,โ€ the recall says. โ€œThese products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.โ€

In 2022, FSIS issued a public health alert for some Perdue ready-to-eat chicken breast tenders as they may contain pieces of plastic and blue dye.

Iโ€™ve been purchasing the 29 oz for months. My 8 lb fur baby has to eat only real chicken and rice, and Iโ€™m having to make 2 weeks at the time, because heโ€™s gotten some stomach issues for the last several months and thatโ€™s all the Vet will allow him to eat. This may help explain why he all of a sudden starting get sick at least once a week and after $500 for tests, they canโ€™t figure out whatโ€™s wrong with him.
