November auto recalls overview:
- Who: General Motors, Stellantis, Tesla and Volkswagen issued vehicle recalls in November and late October.
- Why: The recalls involve a software issue, defective antilock brake systems, a failing transmission control valve, defective drive inverters and exploding driver’s side front airbag inflators.
- Where: The November auto recalls affect certain vehicle owners nationwide.
Recently, General Motors, Stellantis, Tesla and Volkswagen issued vehicle recalls over a variety of safety-related concerns.
An automaker may choose to initiate a vehicle recall if it determines an issue with the vehicle puts drivers, passengers, pedestrians and/or others on the road in danger.
GM recalls Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana vehicles over software issue
General Motors issued a recall for more than 77,000 of its model year 2022-2023 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles last month over concerns a software issue could increase the risk of a crash.
The automaker says incorrect software in the transmission control module of the recalled vehicles could result in harsh shifting, reduced power, rear wheel lockup, unintended deceleration or movement in an unintended direction.
“Rear wheel lock-up or moving in an unintended direction can increase the risk of a crash,” the GM recall says.
General Motors says it plans to remedy the issue by having its dealers update the transmission control module software calibration for the recalled vehicles free of charge.
Stellantis recalls Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango vehicles
Stellantis issued a recall for more than 200,000 of its model year 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles over concerns they contain defective antilock brake systems.
The automaker says the ABS defect could cause the brake lights on the vehicles to fail to illuminate properly, disable the ABS and electronic stability control and allow the Grand Cherokee and Durango vehicles to start and shift out of park without the brake pedal applied.
“A vehicle that can be started and shifted out of park without applying the brake pedal can result in a vehicle rollaway,” the Stellantis recall says.
Stellantis says it is currently working on developing a remedy for the issue.
GM recalls certain diesel trucks, SUVs over transmission control valve concerns
General Motors issued a recall for certain diesel trucks and SUVs over concerns their transmission control valve could fail.
The automaker says it is concerned a failing transmission control valve could cause the rear wheels of the recalled vehicles to lock up suddenly, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall involves certain model year 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban vehicles and certain model year 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500, GMC Sierra 1500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 vehicles.
General Motors says it will remedy the recall issue by having its dealers install new transmission control module software free of charge.
Tesla issues sixth recall for model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles
Tesla issued its sixth recall for its model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicle since the vehicle was released to the public last year.
More than 2,400 of the Tesla Cybertruck vehicles contained defective drive inverters that could cause the vehicles to suffer a sudden loss of drive power, according to Tesla.
Tesla says the drive inverter defect could cause the vehicles to stop producing torque, preventing the vehicle driver from applying torque to the vehicle with the accelerator pedal and leading to a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.
The automaker says it plans to remedy the recall issue by replacing the drive inverter at no cost to vehicle owners.
VW recalls 110,000+ vehicles over exploding Takata airbag inflator concerns
Volkswagen issued a recall for more than 110,000 of its vehicles over concerns their driver’s side front airbag inflator could explode.
The recall impacts certain 2017-2019 Beetle, Beetle Convertible, 2012-2014 Passat, 2017 Passat Wagon and 2006-2007 Passat Sedan vehicles equipped with a driver’s side Takata SDI-D front airbag inflator.
Volkswagen says the airbag inflators could explode and cause injury due to the degradation of propellant after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperature and high temperature cycling.
“An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death,” the Volkswagen recall says.
The automaker says it plans to remedy the issue by having its dealers replace the driver’s side front airbag inflator on the recalled vehicles free of charge.

This is all making me nervous about my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Add me.
Yes! I am absolutely affected. My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been nothing but a headache. The expensive warranty that I bought seems to cover exactly nothing that’s wrong. Now a recall they don’t know how to fix? Too bad I’m a Disabled Veteran recovering from a stolen identity and cruddy credit.
